...finished the first phase of my 777 restoration...
New speakers (!) and new plexiglass tuner cover replacement.

Speakers sound excellent. To replace the old "subwoofers" that never really go below 100Hz, I installed a pair of MCM electronics woofers that are nice and flat down at 40 Hz. Their impedence is 6ohms, so I don't loose that much in the way of power vice the original 4 ohm units. The outer speakers are Pioneer two-ways that act as a mid and a second set of tweeters. They come in at a match of 4 ohms.
The result is that my highs are higher and my lows are lower...what more could anyone want? :-D
The 1/8 inch plexiglass I cut with a jigsaw and then sanded on my belt sander until it fit like a glove.

Now for the bad news... :annoyed:
When I opened this box that had been sold to me as having "minor cosmetic issues" I found that 3 of the large screw towers that w/ the screws hold both halfs of the box together had been broken and hot glued back into place. They fell out when I opened up the box as it wasn't even a good glue job. Oh, well...

All credit for this mod goes to gld from s2g...he was my inspiration!

Hey Ken, I've used Testors model cement for plastics to repair broken screw posts with excellent results. Let the posts cure for at least 24 hours.

And remember guys, you only need to tighten the screws with minimal force - we're not bolting on lug nuts. :-D

when replacing speakers, generally speaking

please do not replace something like this:

8 ohms

with 2 ohms,

this is kinda dangerous,

it might BURN your amp.

8 to 4, is kinda ok, some amps are alright with that.

but big changes are not so good.

physic laws say so and i agree...

ZAP

have a fun time modding
