I like this part:

"I think the time is right to bring back a really good-sounding, traditionally designed boom box," suggested (Bob) Nizza. "Look at the comeback of the Ford Mustang, the Dodge Challenger and Chevy Camaro. People are gravitating to those designs because they remind them of the best times of their lives."

Bob Nizza was an executive with JVC who started out selling the brand's boxes in the late 1970s at an electronics and appliances store in New Hyde Park, N.Y.

...it only makes sense that the big electronic manufacturers make a limited run of the more popular designs. Having a cassette player may be cost prohibitive but I think everyone here would buy an new M70 or M90 with an ipod dock in the middle....

Only iPod fans would. ;-) The cassette is almost officially a dead format, so it could happen.

I agree with what everyone has stated... Great article. I think I mentioned on another post that these articles have helped me prove to friends and co-workers that I am not some lone, crazed boombox addict!

However, I cannot imagine, with the way companies are all about tapping into their market, that JVC or Sony (or other reputable company) has not created a true iPod compatible of the same quality/size of at least an M70.

I have to admit, this i931 I bought makes me almost sick to look at! :annoyed: I have a love-hate thing going: I love the access to all my music at one time, but HATE the cheapness of it. By the time I get this P.O.S. to 20 or 25 (volume goes from 0-40) I should feel it in my gut. Nope. :hmmm: And that God-awful radio dial sticker kills me...

If JVC could make something that looked and felt like the M90 with a universal docking station similar to that new Kohls iPod boombox, we'd be in business!

So True! Lasonic could have done such a better job and still can!

I like this part of that article:

"It's an art he mastered mixing tapes "to impress girls" on an vintage Lasonic portable - now a sore subject for Knotz. He lost his beloved box a couple of months ago on South Philly's Passyunk Avenue. "We were shooting a music video with it as a prop, turned our backs for a couple minutes, and it was gone."

OK, so, If ever in So. Philly...hand cuff your radio to you! Ahhhhh, Just like in the 80's!

Man, I must've missed that part about the stolen box... That's foul! Goes to show that even tho some think it's a novelty, it's also something worth stealing.

It goes to show you if it isn't nailed down (and it already has a handle on it) it's gone! :-P ;-)

When I used to live down in Los Angeles, I had a recliner I wanted to get rid of. I dragged it to the street and put a "FREE" sign on it. It sat there for 3 days. I then up a "FOR SALE" sign on it and it was gone in an hour!
