I say ‘fresh’ but it’s actually damned filthy lol

These were not sold over here in the UK so they’re really hard to come by. This came up on eBay as a good priced BIN, though shipping and important duty nearly doubles the cost! It was still less than half the price of my first one. Couldn’t resist as they’re beautiful and loud as hell. Love it.

This was a mechanics box so it’s coated in dried out grease but I love this stuff as it often protects the painted surface. The front looks pretty good from the off. But of course it’s going be stripped bathed and restored to fully working.

Out of the shipping box it works well on radio on both channels and all controls work so that’s an awesome start.

Gave the chrome a little rub to check it out and it cleaned up nice. Already stripped the back off and given it a preliminary clean before its bath and again it scrubbed up well.

Will get this finished next week after the UK meet :-)

Oh and the replacement trim also turned up today from Caution!

Yeh I’d brought it home from work (always delivered there) about an hour before I had to start on it...couldn’t wait any longer lol. Needed to at least check out how well it would clean up

With deck keys like an ol' crone's teeth you've certainly given yourself a challenge but I do like your optimism and your point about a thick layer of grime offering a degree of protection is interesting.

Good luck!

They are a bit wonky aren’t they lol...without the trim holding them straight they bend relatively easily. So it’s easy to bend them straight again...no biggy at all.

As for the grime, you never know what’s underneath but I tend to favour the really rough looking ones on eBay because they’re so much cheaper. I’ve had plenty like this and they’re very often great underneath...so far it’s looking promising :-)

The back has scrubbed up really well :-)

Wow, another great score. I agree, the big Conion should clean up well. Isn’t it fantastic that thanks to the awesome members of this site, we now have access to replacement trims for these old girls.
