Hi everyone-I am having financial diificulty lately but I always keep about 3-4.00 with me and hoping when I go into Goodwill that there won't be anything to great or to exspensive. As of lately there hasn't been a boombox for like 2 months!! This might be a blessing in disguise though!
BUT I wen this morning and there was a really old Sharp cassettte player and for 1.99!!
I grabbed that immediately.
It's in great shape and everything works excepy FF hardly works-slipping belt.
That shouldn't be to bad-fix it later.
I cleaned it up and it shines like a new penny!! :surf:
This thing is old-maybe 72' or so I'm guessing.
Such a cool unit-sounds really good & loud to!
Very heavy!
Even has line-in for radio !!!!
Also has a cool battery power meter-old type w/window!
Very psyched to get this!
Here's a photo.
I also got a Garrard Walkman w/ 3band EQ for 1.99 so I hit it today! For very cheap to!!
Have a great weekend-GB. :-)

Congrats, Jeff! That's a great vintage score!

Thrifting is really hit or miss, but worth the effort when you stumble across something like that.

I recently bought a $3 boombox at a thrift store. It is a turquoise-ish colored a Phillips CD/tape boombox. Yea, its a bit of an egg or "hockey puck" looking modern thing, but perfect for my son's room and for him to beat around on. A similar new box would have put me back $40 or $50. I tested it in the store and, althought the controls were very scratchy, all of the CD and tape mechanics worked properly so I bought it. After roughly 5 minutes with some deoxit it now works perfectly!

Six months ago I found two very gently used Nakamichi metal cassettes and paid a quarter each for them. Those tapes, even used, sell for upwards of $15 on ebay when they appear.

The moral of the story..... DON'T EVER GIVE UP ON THRIFT STORES!!! AND DON'T ONLY LOOK FOR BOOMBOXES!

Awesome jaetee I find all of my cassettes at thrift stores for a quarter to a dollar each. The only exception are a couple of cool reels Fatdog sent me.

:agree: I walk most of the isles at the thrift even if it's a little quickly so I can cover multiple stores when I go out. The odd find of a cool boomer, walkman, cassette or whatever is a cheap rush that's just to cool to ignore.
