I am starting stage 1 of my White M70 project and was looking for a good chrome spray for the tweeter trim and mic's. I tried several but the one that actually looked like chrome when dry was Duplicolors chrome spray for car trim. Most other sprays looks silver but this one actually drys to a metal-like chrome finish. It's not mirror chrome but it's the closest I have ever seen in a spray. I took some pic's of the tweeter trim and mic's and you can see for yourself. I also added pics of my polished center caps on my speakers...they are mirror-chrome now!!

Did you repaint another set of speakers Melvin or is that the pair that you did previously?

Yup the duplicolor chrome is the best over the counter chrome.
I also have used it with great sucess on the knobs for my Panny 5350.
Looking great on the m-70 I would let that chrome paint dry for a long while before you decide to put any masking tape on it.
Seriously it takes a long time to cure.

...that box is the leftover parts from my busted up M70 and those are my previously done speakers.

...you aren't kidding. I painted them yesterday morning and touched them in the evening to see if they had hardened and it left a huge finger print so I had to re-do them this morning...gonna let them sit for at least 3-4 days.

Better still would be a week. Especially if they are in an outdoor garage type area. I know it's tough to wait it out but I know from seeng your prior work you'd have it no other way. Looking forward to the finished job. :-)

..I think I will take your advice and wait a week..tested the paint with a sewing needle and still very soft...might wait 2 weeks...

do you ever get a total sunny day out there ? :-)

it will dry solid in one day -- outside
..the sun has been out but the air is cool. My garage is climate controlled so it's gonna sit on the shelf for now. I sprayed about 4 coats of the chrome so it may take a while to dry...plus it is sitting under the heater vent...

Once upon a time, long long ago, I sprayed an amplifier with a THICK layer of primer because I wanted to fill in some engravings and figured I would sand off the excess. It NEVER dried and was always a little rubbery. Even with the assistance of an incandescent reflector bulb illuminating it days on end. Then began to develop alligator skin. In the end, I removed it all and bought a different brand. One lesson was never to spray it on thick. One coat -- let it dry a bit. Another coat -- let it dry a bit. etc.

...good point...I have learned from past mistakes. I dry each coat for 30 minutes with a hair dryer before adding another coat.
