The Fisher is a really loud and great sounding three-piece boombox. But it is also very, very heavy.

But to be fair it is 3 piece vs 1

The Fisher might be louder, but the Sanyo sounds better IMO
Haven't heard either, and really not a lot of their boxes, especially Fisher's, but Sanyo never fails to impress me with the sound quality of their boxes. More open and balanced than a lot out there, especially in the minis . Not crankers, but clean nonetheless.

Funny that they seemed to miss the mark in the majority (not all) of their home gear.

I've had both and it's really hard to put 3-4 piece units up against 1 piece. But Since Sanyo has owned Fisher since about 1975 I'd say both have great looks and sound separation but the fisher pumps louder due to it being 3pc and 8" woofers in separate wood insulated speaker boxes

I'll agree on the Fisher sounding better. The only thing of note is that the cabinets for the speakers are not wood, but a high density plastic. (Have the second version 492.) :-)

That's right I just remember some wood inside the cabinets now.

the 920 don't have much of a thump to it but she does play loud and nearly distortion free at any volume . on the streets you better eat you wheatties to carry the fisher , the chances of you needing a box the size of the 490 to protect you from other radio's is slim at best . now if i just wanted to be a public menace i would choose the 490 lol.

Let me know if you want one. I don't play with it as much as I used to.
