FISHER PH-490 - 9.2" Flat Medium Belt Works BEST!(FBM-9.2)

I have a Fisher PH-490 that needed belts to get her up & running again & sat waiting for attention for about 11 years now. I left this one for last so I could polish my servicing & belting skills with the previous, less challenging boomboxes. I watched the Tedee Hasheee video of the re-belting process & it helped me have the knowlewdge & confidence to tackle this beast & it wasn't easy. I had to remove the back of the cabinet first, which requires marking & disconnecting 9 connectors for the amp & power block. Then the sides are removes as one piece, from the unit. Then I had to remove the front face from the chassis & then the deck is removed from the chassis to do the work of replacing the belts.

Whoo! That's done & now the re-belting process. I went with the list of belts mentioned in various threads posted by Caution & others as:

Counter: SCY7.0 / SBO7.0
Drive: FRW9.2 / FBS9.2
Auto Shut-off: SCQ4.8 / SBM4.8
Wind: SCB3.8 / SBX3.7

Everything went off without a hitch but I noticed that the quoted FBS9.2 only contacted about half of the surface area of the large brass pulley of the motor which I found a bit odd since the motor pulley is much larger than the usual plastic pulleys of other decks. This thing is built like a tank. Once I got it back together, it played well with a good 0.06%RMS W/F but using music search caused the belt to slip a bit & it worked a bit dodgy & slow.

I then ordered a wider FBM-9.2(Medium Width) from Turntable Needles & fitted it to the capstan & motor. It fit perfectly & everything works as it should now, including music search in both directions. Check it out for yourself with a good set of headphones or stereo...

I would use all the belts listed above & pretty much everywhere I looked but I would substitute the wider FBM-9.2 for the narrower FBS-9.2 if you plan on re-belting this beast. The capstan, motor & pulley on this monster are signifacantly larger than the average boombox & I believe the belts listed are correct & work great but the wider belt is really the one to use.

I would love the hear from other members about this. I regret no taking photos of the wider belt & how it fit but it fits perfectly & music search works very good with good torque on the reels now.
