Hey everyone, I've been lurking here and stereo2go for a while now after getting into this stuff over the past 2 years or so. I had an old JVC M70 given to me by my younger brother who used it for a photoshoot for a Bboy event. He had no idea if it worked or not and got it off an old roommate who had it laying around. I always liked stereos but never had a nice vintage one but I immediately noticed how heavy the M70 was and hooked it up for the first time. It barely worked but when I had all the sliders in just the right position it was freakin awesome and loud. I proceeded to clean it and got most everything working but the right-channel volume slider is a bit hopeless. The resistance seems to be gone as it works on higher volumes but just doesn't really lower the volume below 5 (not that i'd ever want to do that).
Anyways, i disassembled that thing and learned the ins and outs and after procuring another M70 in much better condition I decided to return to the one that started it all and have some fun with it. I actually didn't paint this guy myself but stripped the case and sanded it down. Someone had carved in what looked like an SS# and Serial # on the faceplate. Did they do that a lot in the 80s? I assume it was to track it if it ever showed up at a pawn shop or something but I sanded it away.
My girlfriend's roommate actually did the painting since he's an artist and is into doing this cool 80s pastel work. I just let him goto town on it and here is the result:
