I Finally got a Sharp VZ2000. But of course the turntable does not work. I feel like it is probably the belt that is bad due to its age. Everything else works and it is in beautiful shape. Is this belt hard to replace? Are the belts that are for sale on ebay ok? Any advice would be much appreciated.... I have never opened up any of my Boomers before... :'-( :'-(

Congrats Goblin on your VZ! I'm in the same boat as you, just got mine and have the same issues. Hopefully I can pull from this thread.

Rebelting a VZ2000 is a piece of cake

Just follow these instrctions:

1: Take out the turntable unit by opening the door and carefully remove the two screws ion the upper left and upper right corner in the turntable compartment.
The blue cover does NOT need to be taken off. The screws will squeak since they are mounted in rubber to not let vibrations disturb the turntable.

2: Once those two screws are untightened, close the turntable unit again and push down und the door. It will go down and the like snatch out to the front.
The turntable unit is mounted on two springs (once again to protect it from vibration).

3: After removing some cable clips inside for better access, unplug a black and a white plug inside. Be careful, the balck plug needs a little tab to be pressed down in order to pull it out freely without damaging anything.

4: You can theoretically start rebelting the turntable now...it is just a little hard to do with the control PCB being still in the box.

To take out the control PCB:

1: Remove all the screws from the back plus two in the front (right and left lower corner of the turntable) and don't worget the one under the tunig dial.
The silders and volume/tunig dials should be taken off in order to open the box up.

2: One you have removed the screws, carefully open both halvesafter about 5-10 cm, you might want to stop to pull out the speaker connections plugs which are located at the bottom of the box  .

3: While taking it apart, he turntable pcb control should just fall out since it is only slided in these somehow. Don't worry, it is easy to get it back into place later on.

4: once having the whole unit apart, it strongly recommend to do some cleaning in the speaker which are normally really dusty and also apply some contact cleaner on the function switch and the sliders. And clean the tuner scale inside - it will be nice and blue again

To put it back together just reverse all those actions.

To rebeltt he turntable you can atke the spinning disc off with all the electronis by removin 4 screws. You can now put the belt around the big spinning disc and then with a self made tool like from a paper clip, you can pull it over the motor carefully. Don't forget the also change the tone arm drive belt which is on a seperate motor.
Hopefully your old belt did not leave icky remains in the box  .

Good luck making it a fully working VZ again!
I worked on mine for 3 days but it was so worth it  .

mmcodomino, Loosened the two screws that are in the rubber but the turn table does not drop a bit when pushed down.... Mine is the black VZ not the blue one.... Do you think there is a difference? I have the screws loosened all the way... Heck I took them out just to make sure. What do you think?

If you go on YouTube and punch up Sharp VZ 2000 Opening + Repair, it shoes someone opening what I think appears to be the black version of box. This may help!

Good luck.

Are you sure you loosened the right ones? The ones on the very top left and top right orner in the blue panel - in quite deep. :-/ .
Sometimes you have to push a little harder down on it - those springs can be rather hard.
The blue and black VZ are 100% the same body. The black VZ has one function button less for the band selection.
I wish I coul just come over and help you. We would have the belt changed in a heartbeat  .

Glad I didn't push down too hard and break it... I missed the two screws in the rear of the VZ and the screw in the battery compartment.... I finally got it out and the belt is GOOOOOEEEYY!! :w00t: :w00t: Took the wheel out and cleaned it with simple green... Now I can't wait to get the belts   Thanks for the help.. I would not have even attempted this myself without the guidence.

Screws in the back that hold the tuntable???
And in the battery compartment? :dunce:

Well, all I know is that my turntable easily came out by removing those two screws in rubber...they go to posts that come from the back but I cannot see anything else that would have held the turntable in except for these...and I dont recall seeing one single screw in the battery compartment  .

Anyway - good job and I am glad you got the turntable out

These extra screws made no sense to me.... They completely stop the Springs that the turntable sits on from doing their job as it had absolutely no give :hmmm:

I am wondering if these screws were in the VZ when originally manufactured and shipped and were supposed to be removed before use.... :hmmm:

They are in factory molded spots.

Took pics of them But I don't seem to be able to upload pics....Don't know why...

sharp did ship these from the factory with 2 screws in the bottom of the unit to support the turntable assembly during shipping ,they are supposed to be removed before using the unit, but sometimes they are not and that would explain the extra screws ,if you remove them it should restore the travel of the support springs to full.
