A lot of portables I loved as a kid in the mid 80s through early 90s had an interesting look mic... (I noted this as I used to do a lot of talking to my tape recorders) anyway... Restoring a sharp QT-212 someone had wrecked the mic by pushing something into it.

Tried for hours scouring the net for any like it..... Nothing.

I am enquiring to manufacturers about a re run, based on parameters of existing samples I have.

If I get a run produced, would anyone out here be interested in getting some aswell.... Not interested in profiting from this. Will try to do this myself, but if I have to fill a minimum I will endeavour, and offer units to enthusiasts at the total cost per unit to me (includes freight from manufacturer to me) and cost of postage to you (shouldn't be much they're light) but like all things 80s now unobtanium...

Generic physical size of 9.7mm diameter 6.7mm depth (which seemed to be the most common in that era)

Posted a few pics of a non damaged sample

Maplin's (probably others too) tie clip mikes use compatible hardware. Would they not be cheaper per unit than having to pay someone to start manufacturing? I needed one of the pair for my National Panasonic RS460SD so bought a stereo tie clip and replaced both. Correct tech specs and working fine, the one in my Hacker RPC1 was also erratic in its function so a single-ended tieclip was purchased and the mike used for that job. Modern graphine diaphragms can be smaller yet far better in terms of dynamic as well as physical range so those of the same size are better at what they need to do without any adverse effects.
Maplin are mainly in the RoI and here in the UK but there must be some local alternative such as Tandy, Radio Shack, Farnell or CPC elsewhere on the planet? ;-)
