Yes, this is being posted in Collections because, due to ebay, my collection will grow quite a bit over the next week or so.
I was on a boombox kick last week. Found a bunch that I kinda liked, a few that I really liked so I did what any self respecting box collector would do...
I bid on all of them. What I did not expect was to win them all. Eeeek! I figured I'd get outbid on a few and end up with one or two that I liked.

Nope. 5. I won 5 freaking boxes. I had the money but for that kind of cash I would rather have had one REALLY nice box. LOL.

Ya end up thinking just a little here, a little there, thats not a problem. Then you end up spending what could have been a grail or semi grail.
Sigh.

More resto's to follow!

Been there - good think it was just one box I threw a sympathy bid on. You got 5!? :-O - Yikes, that is definetly a semi-grail/grail $ amount most likely expecially after you consider shipping charges too......

What BBXs did you win?

I wish we all had that kind of luck. Take it for what's worth. It won't always be like this, especially on boxes you REALLY like.

GE Double Cassette. Good shape but VERY dirty. No model number known. It's a GE so doesnt really matter, i got it cuz it was CHEAP and I think I can make it a pretty cool looking custom.
Sanyo M9840
Sony CFS-500
Mitsuba ES1111 Keyboard Composer
JVC RC-w44 mini

MasterBlaster84

Boomus Fidelis
The dangers of bidding, I feel for you because I've done some similar bidding in the past. Let us know what the boxes are so we can at least make you feel good about it.

UPS just stopped by with the Sanyo and the Composer.
Sanyo is top notch. exactly as advertised. The composer however....

It's got a SERIOUS high pitched whine across all modes. Guessing about 6500 cycles. Very audible in the right speaker, inaudible in left speaker. When using in ears - Very audible in right monitor, tiny bit audible in left monitor. Very disappointed in the seller that this wasnt stated in the ad. It's possible it happened during shipping but who knows.

A high-pitched whine can usually be the result of a dirty internal record switch. Open it up and clean it and see what happens.

Yep, thats definitely it. I was playing around with it and tapped the record button and it started going off and on. "chirp chirp chirp"
Tapped a couple more times and it quit then came back. Guess I'm opening it up. I had planned on getting it open for the resto anyway so I guess I can't complain too much.

its really us bidders that are the devil - :hmmm:
ebay is just the showcase :-O

wish i could follow my own advice ...... :dunce:
when you see what looks like a great score on ebay ..........
then we win it for only 30 bucks plus 20 s/h = 50

do that only once per month - for one year ---and there goes the $600
for the grail we REALLY wanted  :'-(

cool = pass
 :surf: :-D :-D :-)

Carpe diem .
If you get 5 great deals on boomboxes you love, buy 5 boomboxes. :w00t:

There were only so many boomboxes made, and many were thrown out.

However, this market that Ive seen in the last few months is kind of unpredictible, so save a little money for that M90 that shows up
for 50$ BIN - under womens accessories. :-)

I think the hard part is knowing that if these things don't sell on ebay, quite a few will end up in the trash  and we want to save them all.

Also, it could be the missus........
What's a poor boy to do? It's either the devil in front of you (epay) or the devil behind you (the missus)...damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead! :surf:

There can be something said for getting numerous boxes instead of one grail. You have variety for use on different days.Nothing you get is going to satisfy you constantly and forever-even a grail. You will still want others. The downside to multiple models is the space issue.I think my point is that there's definite benefits both ways so don't feel bad.I'm constantly changing boxes.I couldn't take the same one to work EVERYDAY.I need variety in my life.
