Got my (first) M70 this morning. Really happy with the condition. Tape player works great, line in, fm, both ant's are in intact, etc. Some minor dirt/scratches but it looks like 90% of them can be cleaned/buffed out. Only 'issue' seems that the tuning dial stops at around 102FM when going down the dial. Goes from 102-108 just fine, I would assume that's just some adjustment once I open it up. Gotta figure out how this Multi Music Scanner Program thing works too. I bet theres a manual or posting about it on the board. Probably the best thing is how loud this thing is. Even with a 1993 tape from Shaq it sounded great. (my testing tape in case it eats it), good lord it bumps. Got an M90 on the way too, almost scared to hear what that might sound like.

Weekend starting out good for me so far!

Speaking of cleaning and buffing things out.

What everyone's favorite substances for your basic cleanup when you get a new box?
For the dirty buttons and trim, maybe some minor surface scratches on the tuner glass/plastic and similar issues.

I've been messing around with my 'lesser', cheaper and rougher boxes to kinda test out some things. Here's what I'm working with that has shown some success from what I've seen...

- Denatured alcohol for the tape heads and what else?
- Standard pressurized air for overall dusting of inside and out.
- Mild soap and water for a light cleaning/dusting of the chassis
- Car scratch remover/polish for the tuner glass/plastic, deck cover and similar materials. I swear I got a tuner glass to look like new with that stuff.
- Hobby shop Qtips, nice sharper ends for precise work, and tight so no cotton left in your wake
- Goof Off. ONLY for specific hardcore stuff, and not on plastic I think it bleaches it. But it worked like magic on some crusted mystery gunk on my metal top panel for me. And it didn't remove any of the orig dial label paint. But I'm still nervous even have it around as I know it's like paint thinner

What else do I need? What does everyone use to get some stubborn parts to move better? I have a little piece in the tape mechniasm that isn't rotating up/down as it should, so when I go from FF to stop, it doesn't reset as should and thus when you hit PLAY, the gearing doesn't contact correctly. What/how do you lube up those little parts with?

And anyone have a secret way to fix/replace gear teeth? I have a box with the tape door teeth pretty chewed up. No idea if there's a way to reshape maybe 5 teeth so it opens a bit smoother.

OK, now I'll look in the restoration section and probably find all the answers and info I need. :)

I was cutting once a chewed teeth. Just carving a little bit more sharp edges on them. It was not so bad result  .
