Hi all.

My nephew just peeked in my room and asked me if I wanted a burger (i'm home sick, he's cooking.) I joked that he was trying to poison me to inherit my boomboxes. Sarcastic lil ... that he is, he was dismayed that his plan was foiled. He did also ask me which one of my bomboxes was the oldest (Hitachi 3D80, Sharp WF-T380 H, Sharp QT73-CD.)

Anyway, that got me thinking. Christmas being around the corner and all that. Which one piece with decent sound and separate bass/ treble controls, has an AUX IN as well? He might just get a boombox for Christmas.

I'm more into 90s than 80s boomboxes so i'm relying on y'all knowledge.

Thanks.

I've been trying to get hold of a Sharp GF-8989 MK2 for a while. They have proper line in from around 1982 I think.

(Just bought another Mk1 8989 on ebay as it was in too good a condition to pass up. The MK1 only has DIN input unfortunatelly.)

Phillips d8614
Classic look, line in, sounds amazing for its size and can be easily sourced and fairly cheap!

You can always find a way to get the sound into the boombox; teathered or Bluetooth cassette adapters

Just buy something you like the look of.

That's the plan; whatever it is will get a bluetooth mod.

I saw one whose look I really liked, a Sanyo M9994, and the prices nearly gave me a heart attack!!!!!!!!

Most decent boomboxes have proper line-in, actually, as well as treble/bass controls. This includes early models. Anyhow, stereomad is totally right about the Phillips D8614, though it's maybe not the earliest of 80s models
