I've seen that car before but it's running a best of 11.5 in the quarter, that is sick!! and he can still drive it on the street legally!

That's great, proof that electric doesn't have to be slow. Now can they package it up in a cool car, make it go more than 40 miles per charge and price it so normal people can afford it? So far the answer is no.

just watched that on tv the other day i rather like it and i am a big proponent of electric vehicles.
heres the deal tho its never gonna happen in the way people might think or like. after all there is a viable air powered car that gets excellent range and does over sixty miles a hour but you cant buy it and it seems that project has been killed off .
electric cars have been around for a very long time. fernie porsche being one of the most forgotten proponents of them. his four wheeled hub motored vehicle was patented almost eighty years or so ago now. even with old sealed lead acid battery technology it was a workable design.
the saturn electric car project was a sucess in many ways yet once again you only heard about the negatives.
personally i dont think electric cars are the answer i think peoples idea of what a car needs to be has to change. sorry folks but you dont need a five hundred horse power ten mile to the gallon in a tail wind car to get around in day to day.
yep i like cars i love the design of them ect ect.but the entire idea of car and its function needs to be change.
i think they could build a safe commuter vehicle that is fun to drive and looks good it could even have a gas engine and the technology for hundred mile per gallon vehicles does exist.
one must also remember no matter how clean we get and how good we are there is still a massive chunk of the population emerging as car owners.
i mean right now world wide i think less that fifteen percent of people worldwide own a car.
thats rapidly changing.
technology is intentionally squelched by the big corporations.
oil corporations and car companies are in a war right now. the oil companies are winning that war.
i personally think its disgusting they can gloat over a hybrid car getting fifty miles to the gallon.
i mean i had a chevy sprint that got sixty.
so electric cars are cool that white zombie rocks my socks. i love that ride.
i still love gas powered cars too.
lets face it tho.
its ridiculous that any one should drive this on the street.

i do think its awesome and i do love the idea of it.
however
when i really think about it.
its completely and totally stupid to have a car with that much power to drive to get groceries.
nothing wrong with running it on the strip.
nothing at all,but.
a car with thirty horse power that wieghed five hundred pounds with a birdcage style carbon fiber or composite frame.
that would be more than enough and yes they could make it safe.
i mean the idea of a car needs to change. a car should not be the second largest expense of a person either after a home.
i am ranting but i drank a lot of coffee today and am in a ranting mood.

thanks , fatdog
for that enlightning 10 minute show --
did you guys watch that motorcycle --

0-60 in 2 ( TWO) seconds !!!!! :w00t: :w00t:
nothing else can do that

THIS is one of the rare topics that i actually KNOW about   --

i have built some very fast electric stuff --
converted a skinny tire moped to all electric-- for a DUI friend of mine --
then he got nabbed for SPEEDING !!!
true story  :-P

electric motors are all immediate torque --
even a stock -- old mans golf cart --
can wipe a new porche turbo----for the first 15 yards!!!!!!
really

yeah that motorbike is fast. theres another vid on you tube of the dolt smacking it up on a street after doing a smoke show with it.
theres a couple things that go 0 to 60 faster than that but very many.
i mean my electric bike the 96 volt one i was running a while back was pretty fun.
i had it running pretty good and at one point it would literally beat any car through the stop lights for the first sixty feet.
after that tho i was a speck. its about the torque.
i do really love electric vehicles tho.
i gotta build something soon again. i got a shed filled with parts but need a new controller.
i sort of wanna do a 120 volt bike next and run it off a battery pack on a trailer behind the bike. i have been thinking about doing one with one of the briggs etek motors they had out a couple years back.
.

bill -- the battery packs are getting lighter --and more potent - every 1/2 year-

this is GOOOOOOOD !!! :w00t:

i tried one of my bikes with a lipo pack i made from laptop batteries in series.
there was a lot less torque but less weight.
it was pretty odd trade off because mileage was almost exactly the same.
i turned a bit away from the electric bikes because i got so proficient at riding a regular bike i did not feel the need for it anymore.
allthough my bike was extremely fun.

Problem with electric cars is that they still don't solve the problems of pollution completley, unless the electricity is generated cleanly. People always seem to forget that just because it isn't putting out any CO2 itself, the dirty oil/gas/coal used to generate the electricity used to charge it is.

It's still a step in the right direction however because the efficiencies of most power plants will be a few % greater than that of internal combustion engines.

Well, at least it's a positive sign. Problem is , it's the backyard joe's doing the good stuff, while corporate America wants it hushed unless they get the profit. :annoyed:

Some thoughts--

I like the technology, it makes alot of sense. But I can't stand to listen to the guy talk. He is such a greenie and pretty full of himself. The Vette driver and the BMW driver don't know how to race. The spectators are rednecks. The electric bike is awesome. And everyone is ignoring the fact that electric is not zero emissions.... they are "remote emissions". And I don't have a problem with them getting excited with that. But the fact is those same people are totally against the cleanest way most efficient way to produce electricity. Nuclear.

Well if we all could get ourselves one of these, it would be a dead issue.
