does any one know how tha sound qulity of the magnavox D8443

does annyy one know how tha sound qulity of the magnavox D8443 is? it has a 5speaker 3 amp system but ive never heard it in real life.i plann to hook my ipod up through tha RCA so i was seeing if i should cop one of these.thanks.

Not to bash on magnavox, but for the price of these boomers you are better picking up something like a Realistic SCR-8 or other comparable box. I am a hardcore magnavox fan, but when it comes to boomboxes they are lacking..... not horrible, but if you are set on sound quality I would pass.

Also the "line in" only works in record mode. It's not a proper line in. Looks the part though.

Have you guys tried running an mp3 player into one through Line Out, rather than Line In?
I think JVCFloyd discovered running them through this input made the sound a hell of a lot better.

Yeah, those boomers really look like good units, but with magnavox's it seems that you have to have the play and record buttons depressed to get that line-in to work. I would call it more of a "record-in" and if your cassette player does work I would imagine that it would burn out much quicker with the motor constantly running for the line-in to work.....

At first I wanted all boomboxes, now I am just shooting for ones that have the "wow" factor that are still a managable price.

I know in the day, 1984 to be exact, when I was getting my CEC bbx at Zayer, the magnavox d8443 was up for sale and even though it was bigger than the CEC the sound quality sucked plus there was an xtra deck and more buttons on my CEC

I have heard many say that the sound quality of the Magnavox D8443 isn't all there. But for some reason I just can't look away...Maybe, just from a collection point of view.

What would a reasonable price for it's performance be?

Also

Has anyone tried to mod these boxes? With a 3 channel amp, I guess that could be tough.

And as previously mentioned, the Realistic SCR=8 id a GREAT radio!

I hope I don't kill the market on the D8443's by saying this but if the SCR 8 sells for $71 on ebay (just a few weeks ago), and I got mine for $50.... Minty fresh and all working. I would say the D8443 should be considerably less and now knowing that the tape players eventually break on the D8443's. you just have a ticking time bomb.

The maggies are selling for almost $100 on ebay everyday and I think the only reason is because 75% of the people buying them probably had the same thing when they were a kid and they are not buying them because it was the best boomer around.

Would I buy a D8443, yes - It is a great looking box but try to keep the price under $50 for one and honestly $50 is pushing it when there are higher quality boxes out there for the same price.

Someone on here was just selling a D8443 for $35 in full working condition and it took forever to sell at that price.....

I know it's crazy, but for that price, I might have to just pick one up for nostalgia purposes and because at the very least, it looks cool! Even if it sits on the self. Could be a CRAZY project to build a DOOMER out of one!

As for D8443, I think they are reaching a cult status, mainly on looks. They even have iphone D8443 screen savers.
