Been eyeing boomboxes for a while now and found this Lasonic TRC-931 at a local antique store cheap. I know what these go for fixed up and I could just not pass it up. Everything seems to be working except the selector switch. I googled an found some threads on this board on how to fix it. I'm going to fix it up hopefully keep it forever in the man cave.

Still has some of the protective plastic on it. Missing one of the teeth on the cassette player.

Already started to take it apart for repairs. Very clean inside.

dam! 931 is a great place to start. as far as iv heard selector switch is prone to break, not sure how to fix but im sure someone here can help if need be. looks in good condition to, bonus!

The function selector has a small plastic gear inside that falls apart - someone should 3D up some replacements.

Hiya, Phil125 and welcome to the forum!

How cheap was 'cheap'?
I got it for $100. I see there are some broken ones on ebay now for $250 + about 40 to ship. So I think I got a good deal. I knew this was one of the more sought after models so I thought I would grab it.

Hope you get it fixed up :-)

Me too!

I did electronics test and repair in the army and for about 10 years after that. In all that time I've never seen a switch as poorly designed as this one. Basically made to last the life of the warranty and that's it. Both tape decks work which I was actually more concerned about than the switch.

Well no one would accuse an outfit like Lasonic of making military spec gear! Good looking, good sounding but good quality? That would be a negative.

Welcome Phil, yea a buddy of mine in the Navy bought one of those. We all marveled at its size and relatively good sound. After a few months the cassette deck keys started breaking off and then the lower deck stopped working altogether. Then he had to do the old match book trick on the upper cassette to get it to sound right.Still, all in all if I found one I'd probably get it as they are pretty damn cool when up and running.Nice score sir. You'll find its hard to stop at just one boomer.

Dremeled the switches and got it set to FM. Both gears are cracked in two. Dialed in a local hip hop station. played with the EQ, and got some serious BASS! This thing is sweet.

I think I'm hooked.
