different Lasonic i931 boxes

...so I'm shopping for an i931, but am a little baffled with what the different model numbers mean. Keep in mind that most of the information I've found is from Amazon, as Lasonic doesn't have any info posted on their site anymore that I can find. Here are my noobish questions:

1) It looks like the i931 is 15W / speaker, while the i931X is 12W / speaker, is that true?
2) Is the i931W just the white version of the i931X?
3) Are the gold ones impossibly hard to find?
4) Does anyone have feedback on mods they've done to the speaker baffles? I've seen some posts here on this but no results or final pics.
5) Is there a better alternative at this price point (~$150) for an old-school looking boombox, preferably with iPod dock?

Thanks in advance & cheers,
-hamish

The i931 is the ipod model with a cassette style door that opens and you slide you ipod into it and it closes. (not sure about speaker wattage)
The i931x is the ipod/iphone model with a cross shaped docking station on front wich enables you to dock the ipod/iphone vertically or horizontally. (not sure about speaker wattage)
The i931w is white with black labels. The i931ww is white with white labels.
I am not sure who wrote it but there is a forum post on how to perform the speaker baffle mod.

thanks mellymelsr, that's starting to clear some of this up. I think i found the mod post, but haven't seen any results; it was more of a "I'm going to do this..." post. I'll keep digging, maybe I missed something.

the gold one's a beauty, although I have little/no hope of finding one.

If I was you, I would just buy a cheap black version, strip it down, peel the decals off (try to re-use, if you can't, buy new decals from lasonic for $20), paint the box gold, clear coat it, and rebuild with new decals.

If you want your box "chrome painted" like they do for cars now, you can get the boombox case done for about $125.

The only place I have seen gold is through Veentage which is based in France. They also have bright red now. They don't ship to US but maybe another member might be able to help with it. They are around $400 shipped to like Germany ;-) Here is site......http://www.veentage.com/

yeah saw those, hard to get too excited about the price (I have a funny feeling the sound quality's not worth $400); also, I'm not too crazy about the red version. It sounds like I could do a custom chrome job on a black one & still stay under $300 if I play my cards right.

Looks nice! I'm def. going for the standard black; figure I'll see how it sounds & maybe spray or chrome it from there. If I can chrome for ~$150 I could end up with a sweet box for under $250, but want to get sold on the box before I bother with that.

the i931's are ok......but you should get yourself and old school boomer......99%of them have line ins.....you might be very happy with a Lasonic TRC-975

I hear you... I have a feeling this won't be my last boombox; I've only been on the forum a few days now but am very inspired by what I see ;)

either one of these blows the i931 out of the water....the original TRC 931 and the massive TRC 975.....both have line-in

I have to agree with -GZ- somewhat... Loudness is about the same for the 931's (don't know about the 975), but the i931 can't touch either the TRC-931 or TRC-975 when it comes to bass - even with the baffles trimmed down or removed. The i931 has a cleaner sound than the TRC-931 tho (again, don't know about the TRC-975). Other than the fact that you can actually put the iPod/iPhone in the box, you're probably better off going with an old school Lasonic.

I have a funny feeling I'll end up with both ;-)
The i931 will fill my immediate needs; the 975 might take some time to find, fix up, etc, but is def better. I really want this for an impromptu Dj setup: boombox, laptop, and Launchpad. Both will work for that, but bass is key for the long haul.
