There are tons of mini Sharp boombox out there. I really love to collect one, especially a red one.

Does anyone know which mini Sharp is the best to keep?

Thanks! 🙏

I have three Sharp minis:

QT-242 (single deck, 'tone' box)
QT-250 (single deck, 'tone' box)
QT-27 (single deck, 'tone' box)

The QT-27 stands out from the others with it's superior sound quality and an end positioned tuning knob is better than the 'sideways'/'edge' tuning dials the other two minis use.

I also have three 3-piece Sharp minis:

QT-37 (single deck, 'tone' box)
QT-38 (single deck, 5 stage EQ)
QT-90 (double deck, 5 stage EQ)

While the QT-37 may sound OK without comparison to other models in the range, the QT-38 & QT-90 have a far superior sound quality.

Faced with a choice between the QT-27 and either of the 2 better 3 piece models, the QT-38 & QT-90 stand head and shoulders above the QT-27 in sound quality, features, build quality, they both have more 'punch' and are also certainly more aesthetic.

Hope this helps.

Lovely write up, MOM.
Aw, thanks. My cat was ignoring me tonight and I'm feeling somewhat guilty at not being so active here or recently contributing as much as I'd like.

Yep, MyOhMy really just laid it out.

As described "Tone Only" refers to not having bass and treble knobs. There are many mini's from other brands that do have separate bass and treble knobs. I am by no means the person who knows all about mini's. But there are some really nice feature packed models from Toshiba and Panasonic.

BTW, I do have the QT-93 and it has the nicest decks I own. Two full logic decks, Metal/CrO2 playback, 5 band EQ, very nice 3 piece system and not all that much bigger than a "Mini".

Good luck MYSELF (man, that is strange to say) Welcome to the site

Dear MOM and TRC-920, thank you for all your kindness. I will keep an eye on those models and study them more. The models of sharp are truly overwhelming.

FYI, I just won two mini, one JVC and one Sanyo, pictures attached. BOth are (on the way to me) supposed to be fully operational. SO I also wannacollect mini from sharp, Sony, TOshiba, National, and Marantz, if they are good.

🙏 thanks to all who give me advise 🙏

Yes great write up from Mom and Chris.

There are a great many mini's and you have just bagged two of the good ones. The JVC i have never seen in person but such a cool looking box, the Sanyo you cannot go wrong with as they are perhaps king of the mini. I do however have a Panasonic mini at home that i adore, it has an \LED VU, nice deck, proper line in and looks cool as hell, I cant remember the model but i will post it when im home (im away with work at the moment).

Rudey has a Toshiba (SF5 i beleive?) that i have been trying to source for ages as it is multi voltage, nice deck, line in etc and looks lovely, look out for one of them to.

Great buys so far mate

That Sanyo was an expensive auction but definitely a nice box and in that piano black cream combo the best looker in my opinion. I've a couple of them. The JVC is a three piecer? Mini combo?
The Tosh's Tre mentioned is a great all rounder for travel because you can just wrap it in a towel in your suitcase and if the rules are changing for hand luggage then it's a good option. The line-in and multi voltage are great.

Those are good choices. Don't know what you paid but it doesn't matter. Buy what grabs you.

Thanks for introducing to me the SF5! It should be a great one! Will look for it.

What's the model of the Panasonic?

Someone here says my JVC is even "kinger" than the Sanyo that I brought! But I don't have the record on his claim on hand! Will try to dig it out.

Thanks for your help!

It looks like SF5 is truly suitable for travel coz it looks great, with good built quality and might not be be too expensive for now. I wanna get a red one.

The JVC is a very interesting petit model. Someone recommended extremely highly to me. Although I haven't received it on hand, I do have some photos to show how interesting it is.🤗

I really enjoy my QT-77. It's a bit deep/heavy for a mini but it really pounds.
Thanks.
Will also keep an eye on QT77

Those two are my dreamed minis. I have been watching for the price of these two.

Both 100% functional, I paid 100 for JVC and 260 for Sanyo ( shipping is extra) ! Just a month ago, someone paid 440 for a deck defected Sanyo, 200+ for a silver JVC. ( I might need to locally pay 10 to fix the tips of my JVC attenate)
