My old DVD player is connected to one of my boomboxes - Hitachi TRK-WX88W.
When I listen different CD's or MP3-CD's, they have different levels
and sometimes output level is very strong and gets distortion of the sound.
To resolve this problem, I integrated one attenuator in player.
I insert 50K potentiometer and make connections just like this picture:

To see output level, I integrated one led level meter.
Of course is need little modification to assemble leds and other parts.
I found a suitable place for the leds and drilled holes in the front panel.
Dismantling the leds from the board and connect them with wires.
Connect level meter board to the variable audio output of the player.
