Not a box strictly speaking, but it is an interesting crown. You guys seen this one? I saw fatdog had a portable sharp image up top so I thought I'd post. The bugger is I have a power problem I haven't sorted out yet so can't tell how crappy the thing sounds...looks like lots of parts not meant for replacement :grim: might nedd an expert :hmmm:

yes it takes 4 D size batteries...pretty funny since you would have to carry records, but a carboot would be perfect. It's small 10-1/2" x 6" x 2" thick. (no mm measurements, takes this american too long... :)

That's really cool, blah blah! Is that silver ring the 45rpm adapter? Is it belt driven or direct?

Interestingly cool little record player, never seen anything quite like it before. This has the look of a classic collectable even with crappy sound.

it is direct drive fatdog, the silver ring is just part of the platter. the internal drive wheel rides 2 different spots on the motor arbor for either 33 or 45. needs an adapter to run 45's.

MB i am sure the sound is awful but i gotta fix it to find out!

fatdog can you post a pic of that sharp that is similar but looks much higher end?

is that for a car??

Looks like it, must be the first pull out car deck. :hmmm:
A record player in a car? Wouldn't it have trouble tracking while driving or is it only to be used when parked? :hmmm:

for those romantic moments on lovers lane i guess. Wonder if they made an auto rack to carry your records? stylish as hell

Nope, not made for a car. The speaker is on the bottom when listening to a record. The radio's handle and another flip-down piece are the legs.

You'll also notice the unit has pegs so you could attach a carry strap too. I believe Uncle Ed brought that to Florida. You might want to PM him for much more info. Maybe he'll bring it back in 2010.

Funny, it looks like an oversized Floppydrive!
Do you know the manufacturer?

The Sharp looks more like a Car Stereo.

I knew I had seen car record players! Nice, wonder how many bumps that could take?

Didn't they have 45 second anti skip memory like a portable CD player.

Pretty cool Roman but I expect the tracking weight must have been on the heavy side, I'll bet the records didn't last long if they were played often in one of those players. :hmmm:

Maybe they used a linear tracking system? I don´t know if they were available at this time.
Today maybe they would use laser tracking.

Roman, you need to see if you can find one of those at the fleamarket.

I have seen some of them at the fleas.
But no idea if they are working... :hmmm:
For example this nice looking unit:

Found a little discription of it.
The tonearm was pressed down, but with a exact distance from the other side, to not damage the record.
But have it really worked so exact? :hmmm:
What about an older (non 100% flat) record....
