Hey Guys,

I know I have already posted pictures of my Crown CSC950 but i wanted to show some before's and afters and to say a big thanks to Deech, he helped me finish off this box with some much needed parts, namely the handle, which i thought i would never find.

Just to remind everyone of what it looked like on arrival:

Just to add, the little mark on the right grill is from the really baked on paint splatter, you can only see it in some lights. I was going to respray the grills but for some reason i look at this like a "scar" and i don't want to be rid of it. It reminds me of its humble beginnings.

I know i'm daft.

Yep, I agree, leave the grills unpainted, the mark on the right grill is barely noticeable anyway. Congrats on all your hard work on the resto.

Most dramatic before and after pics I've ever seen!!

James.... :-)

Fabulous transformation...this is what it's all about for me...taking something that looks fit for the trash and bringing it back to life. I find that massively more satisfying than buying a minter. Great work Tre...you should be proud :-)

Thanks guys! Yeah this was a major labour of love, i had the wife and son both helping with cleaning, polishing etc while i got on with the insides but it took quite a while to sort everything. I was offerred a fresh 950 at the time to but i wanted to save this one, it wouldn't of been the same getting a different one. I'm so pleased with it now and it works so nice.

I can see the amazing result from the barn find relic and I'm curious:

Do you know how it ended up in the state you found it in?

What did the exterior cleaning involve? The box looked to be in an absolutely terrible state before all your good work so what cleaning methods/techniques did you use and what were the most difficult areas considering preservation on the lettering/symbols etc.?

On the interior, what were the major disasters you had to overcome?

I think I'm looking for encouragement just in case I find myself in the same position one day? My Sharp GF-9000 was in a bad state when I reclaimed it but not quite as bad as the crown, probably about 80%-85% as bad + damages.

Oh good question Mom.

The box was horrific when i got it, not even sure where the handle meant but it was removed with no damage so i guess it was opened.

The box was stripped first of all components so it could be washed in the sink. This gave us a base to work from. The paint was all stripped by my wife, mostly painstakingly by hand with plastic tools so as not to scratch it. I have these little tools for opening iphones etc and they are awesome. The chrome had 4-5 cleans with "Gojo" before it started to come up nice. The top was very difficult, i removed the cement first and used wet and dry to "sand" the metal, being very careful to go around the writing. Towards the end i got a dremel type of thing and polished with an extremely fine tip with some polish that I usually use on my knife blades. This enabled me to get very close.

Interior wise i had to fix the power switch (some very careful soldering) repair a couple of dry joints which gave me back sound on both channels, rebelt, relube and new rollers on the deck. Clean off the battery compartment and terminals, clean off the leakage on the boards with Isoprophyl. I got very lucky with a member helping me with parts but i used everything from the original box unless it was actually missing.

This one actually took a fair while but i think it was worth it. Big shout to Deech/Dlts for the parts, we have helped each other out just recently and i wont forget his help.
