Ok im done, very happy with the end results.
I had a few mistakes along the way such as paint going inside the box and onto the back of the tuner glass but i guess its all a learning curve.

This will not be to everybodys taste, but what the hey.

The Crown 950 Shades of Rust.

ENJOY.

BTW, was the fogged glass intentional, and if not, how come you didn't polish them up before reasssembly?

What happened there was I masked the front of the glass but didnt think to do the back, then when I painted it some paint went inside and hit inside face of the glass. i didnt really notice it till it was pretty much back together.
I have to take the front back off at some point to reattach two wires so will try and clean it off then.

Thanks again for all the comments guys, I really enjoyed this project.

WOW! Painting a boombox to make it look old and rusted. That is better than trying to make it look new.
Great Job!

That was my first thought too. It is definitely unique and one-of-a-kind. How many different kinds of paint did you use for the effect?

I purchased a can of this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170880834093?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

It sprays four colours at once and even gives a rusty texture to the surface. Unfortunately I only got 1 can and ran out of paint, so I had to do trip to the local hardware store and got a can of matt choc brown and autumn orange to finish off.

The marker pen was not first choice, I did have some vinyl stickers but they wouldn't stick to the rust. I may even change it later

This bug was my inspirational picture.
