Very nice Crown Ira! Top marks to Super for a job well done.

On a related note:

One of our more famous Aussie members has one of these junky poor quality Crown's being conveyed to him as I type this.

:-D :-D :-D :-D

Warning, you've never seen a more filthy dirty boombox in your life, here's a couple of sneak preview pics.

I know that said Boomboxery member will bring it up to a very high standard.

Don't all the boomboxes in AU look like that? :-O :w00t:

BTW, a lot of people keep saying it's brown. But it's just Ira's photo skilz. It is supposed to be BRONZE. Chocolate is for eating and does not last. BRONZE is for monuments and last forever.... :w00t:  :agree:

Haahah! Awesome.

I like this Crown a lot! I wish my similar one had the nice chrome speaker trims.. not a fan of the square grills covering the whole enclosure look.

Looking GRAND, Ira!

Rock On.

I Am Legend
been stalling all this typing i want to do --about just the small part of the work norm accomplished-
that i even know about :-O

for starters --heres something i DO know about = color choices

all i had to start with was a dim shot that jens found in an old version bbdb-
called -- crown "unknown" ( no model numbers)

so - from 3500 miles apart - via PMs -
we had to find and agree on the FOUR colors
the grills , the body front ,the back panel and the leds !!!!

as for the functional condition --some things did work -
buy so much did NOT --that the entire inside became a throw-away-
and norm had to make a DOZEN difficult adjustments to use the guts of a crown
950

the most creative were the analog meters -- the 950 had only the leds
so norm had to design and make the meter drivers and all the electronics involved
YIKES !!!
k-mart was fresh out of stock on both # 945 meters
so - he had to research and acquire and test and retest and assemble EVERYTHING :-O

then there were the dial and meter lights and the on/off switch-
the stock 945/950 had none --so - more creations involved

then there was the performance-
- it sounded OLD --now it sounds BETTER than the bigger more powerful
famous 850

then - the deck --needed lots of work - and some more :-) :-D
and the tuner had to be upgraded

finally --there were prolly 63 other small matters :-D :-) :-D
-----------------------------------------------------

makes me exhausted - just writing about it

anyhow -- this is now one gorgeous mother of a box!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks norm

Ira and Norm (and everyone else who was involved!)

What an incredible job you have all done in creating an amazing looking boombox. Dibs by the way ;-)

This story started when I walked past this box at a secondhand shop. It was $50. I had a real good look but thought it was too punished to bother with it so I went home.
After a beer I decided I may have made a big mistake, after all it had so much potential and lets be honest, its a rare beauty.

I quickly hopped on the internet to find a phone number for the shop and asked if they would keep it for me, i'll be there within the hour. To my astonishment they couldn't find it!!!!!! Someone had it in their hand as they were perusing the rest of the shop!!!!! Anyway they left it at the counter when the cashier wouldn't budge on the price and it was mine.

This box was to be my first resto job. I was keen, contacted Melly about painting it (clearly I didn't heed his advice too well :nonono: ). When I posted pics of my collection to date I was contacted by some bloke from Florida who wanted it  . I was reluctant to sell because it was a sh!tty half cooked resto job but he was keen. The rest is history.............

I'm glad I played my part in this one.

Ira enjoyyyyyyyyy   :breakdance: :breakdance:
