Could this wooden boombox be a prototype?

There is an interesting custom wood boombox on ebay.

The workmanship is far beyond your typical garage shop, making me wonder if it was an original prototype made back in the day.

Wow! Talk about a unique one of a kind box. Can't imagine the time it took to make it. Wait a minute... It's being sold out of Russia. It was probably made by some poor prisoner in a gulag prison camp!!! I was about to bid but now that I know it's history I won't. I have a strict personal code that doesn't allow me to go after "blood boomboxes." 😜

I bet this box has some kind of hidden message burned on the inside..

Yeah, the message probably reads something like this: "A message to the free world. Grab as many boomboxes as you can cause the commies are going to try and make them all property of the state!"

We know Gordie heard that message loud and clear!😄

WOW!! Complete with bass ports!!

That dude must have been a retiree in Siberia with nothing to do. He probably had a smashed-up boombox that he decided to part out, and design a brand new shell over it.

Too bad it's f'n ugly, but I definitely respect the work.

Impressive. I wonder how it sounds. Has anyone talked to the seller to try to find out more? I bet it's got a good story.

i agree , looks like somebody just remade the design of plastic case from wood , i guess you kinds have to make it look stock to make it work with the electronics inside.

Whoa, that has to be a prototype for Phillips/Magnavox. Even if you were a professional craftsman, there is no way you would pick this for a project.

I like it.

If it is in fact a home made deal, I bet the guy had this radio in his workshop and accidently knocked it off a shelf and shattered the case. So upset with himself he made a point to put his skills to work and built the new shell with the materials he had.

No, it was made in guantanamo bay prison camp by some poor prisoner of conscience.
Afterwards it was bought by a Russian billionaire.

It's actually the home made, no smash-ups though.
I've read about this crafsman, he lives near Moscow, that wooden Philips isn't his first project.
Made in 2013.

I wonder if the maker has a background in pianos... :hmmm:
The linkage to the keys looks very similar to the stickers in an upright piano action.
