I wasn't sure if it's against the rules to post a link to eBay but I thought some of you might enjoy watching the final hours of this auction.
Check it out
I'm not sure what's driving the price of this other than it being nib.
I owned a GE 5295 a few years ago which is very similar to the 9797.
Despite it being a fairly rare box, I couldn't justify keeping it because I didn't care for how it sounded.
I sold it and don't think I would ever have the urge to buy another one or a 9797.
I'm assuming the 9797 is very similar as far as sound output so I'm amazed where the bidding is on this one, nib or not.
Personally, I've never seen a boombox auction this high before and can't wait to see how it ends.

It is most likely "shill bidding", meaning he's bidding it up with duplicate accounts, to make it seem more valuable. Then he'll relist it as a BIN, claiming that the winner never paid, hoping that people will see the new lower price and pounce on it because it's such a good deal, lol

I didn't think about that but it makes more sense than someone paying over $6600 for that box.
Tax @ 6% would be almost $400.

Something similar happened to me years ago when I was bidding on an led headlight.
I bid a few times and was outbid by the same bidder each time.
Once the auction ended, the high bidder supposedly backed out and I was left paying my highest bid price.
I assumed it was b.s. and contacted ebay.
In a round about way they told me it was b.s. and made him refund me.

The wrapping on that box doesn't even look original. Usually it doesn't have huge wrinkles in it like that one does.

Greed and cheating the system. Not true collectors, just people trying to scam a living. Happening in many hobbies more and more.

The one bidder bid around 41 times which would be crazy in and of itself.
It'll be interesting to see if it pops back up for sale.

No surprise here. I mean is there really a GF-9797 in the world worth more than $400??
The first auction was reduced to this price, but the buyer did not buy it

I kept it in my watchlist waiting to see if it got relisted but it's still not showing it.
I guess only non sold items will show if they're relisted.
After $6600, $999 seems like a steal for that, lol.

Just wanted to bump this up since the second auction is ending soon and some of you might want to watch it.
Currently it's over $2550.

Just sold for $3380 which is still absolutely insane.
Looks like the winning bidder was bidding the last time too.
Question is, was this legit or will it pop back up for sale?
