Converting a Battery compartment into rechargeable battery.

Would love to do this with a spare Sharp GF-8989 i have.

I bet it wouldn't be too bad, worst part would be cutting a hole into the case to mount the USB jack. Will you need to mount some kind of transformer into the radio case? You should try it!

Internal space of the box has to accommodate the charger also in it besides the batteries. In most cases battery pack can be placed in the battery compartment. For the charging unit we have to find extra room inside the box because I rarely see flat charging units. In some cases over charging could be an issue if the charging unit plus battery is not that advanced.

In my case I would rather prefer looking for rechargeable batteries and use it the box. I don't like to drill holes and do modifications that ruin the value and looks of the box. There are so many long lasting rechargeable batteries out there.

I run all my loud warehouse ghetto's off of a 12 volt lead acid rechargeable battery. I either connect to the provided connecting tip if there is one...or run a set of wires from the battery compartment out the back with alligator clips for positive and negative. Battery cost me maybe $30 and will charge for 7 years with a twelve volt car charger. I use the trickle charge. It charges in about 5 hrs.

My guess would be that USB chargers are EVERYWHERE, so in a pinch it would be convenient to use if you happened to forget whatever you decoded to charge it with. Even if it is slower, I suppose it would be a much more readily available cable.

That would be convenient. No battery charger box to make sure you have with you and no where to put it. Just have the USB cable with and trickle charge the blaster.

In order for a charge to occur, the charging voltage needs to be HIGHER than the battery voltage. So again.....

5v ---->>> 12v. Doesn't happen unless the 5v is then boosted to around 13 or 14v. To compare with alkaline battery capacity of around 10,000mAH, and noting the tiny trickle current available after boosting a USB voltage up to usable levels, what's the point of trying to make this thing for convenience if it ends up taking a week to charge the battery when a proper charger might do the job overnight or less?

I recommend using a 12v lipo RC battery, they store a massive amount of energy and their shape makes them fit nicely in battery compartments. Those might charge over USB as there are 3 4.2v cells in there, you'll just have to find the appropriate charger/discharge protection on ebay. I bought a high quality 12v 5000mAh for just 23€ + shipping

Another possibility is to use a few 18650 cells, it tends to be safer than lipo's but also a lot more expensive.
