Just picked up a dirty as all hell Magnavox D8300 at a garage sale...picks to follow...

Does anyone have any recommendations on cleaning the original strap?

It still feels pretty pliable and its easily removed from the box, just wondering if there is a better way or just throw it in with the wash?

thanks!

I would hand wash with very very mild soap. or oxi clean to preserve the color
or leave the funk of the 80s on it! :sin:

Any one have a suggestion on cleaning the speaker grill while still on the box?
It doesn't appear to be removable...ugh...

Looks a hella lot better :-D These are more difficult due to foam type speaker cover :hmmm: Better to take it apart for safety

Thanks man, yeah it was real dirty. No mice infestations though, I used to restore pinball and arcades and had my share of those messes.

I'm guessing that they glue the front speaker screen on. So do you mean to pull all the guts out including the speakers and clean the screen whilest still attached to big yellow?

Those front grills might actually have tabs that stick through into the boombox and are just bent over with a little glue to hold the tab. Open it up, bend the tabs straight and the grill should pop off.

  :agree: w/blufuzz

Once those grills are off, you can think about painting them (if needed) rather than just cleaning.

I did that with a GE box project a while back.

To prep the grills, I used a medium coarse steel wool, followed by a thorough wipe with a rag dabbed in mineral spirits.

Then, three or four delicately sprayed coats of glossy black. :-D
