Got my second RS-466S on Jan 28th, 2016. I got it locally from an older gentleman. It is from his father's collection. The box has never seen outside his cabinet. All it had was some dust and not a single scratch. The chrome on handle looked like new after cleaning.

This is one of my favorite boxes from the late 70s. After using mono tape players when I saw this for first time I was speechless!

It is so hard to believe the flawless performance of this beautiful radio cassette recorder. I still remember the red sticker on the cassette door reading 7.2Watts. In 1978 I had Panasonic 5310 and that was the big thing! After seeing RS-466 I desperately wanted this stereo cassette recorder.

The radio was working and cassette was not. Once you remove the screws at the back it separates and opens up to 3 parts. The front face with speakers, the center area with all boards and cassette mechanism and the rear panel. to I took it all apart and gave a nice bath to plastic front and rear faces of it. I had to disconnect the speakers for washing the face panel.

It was easy to remove the cassette section and replace belts. I had to lightly sand the pinch roller to make it a little rough. The REW, PLAY, FF all work very nice. All idler wheels remained very good after say 38 years. I cleaned all switches with deoxit. The tone control board come our with the two left and right volume controllers and bass and treble controller. Once you remove two screws it is easy to clean them with deoxit. The bass and treble had some static and that was fixed by the cleaning. I also cleaned the FM, AM band switch and the long record bar. It is a little tricky to get the record lever in the small slot of the long record switch. That was the only hard part while putting things back.

Now everything works like new. The dual cone speakers are amazing! I still cannot believe how good they sound. radio reception is crystal clear and recording is outstanding!

I call RS-466 a LITTLE GIANT! It is an awesome box to have.

Pictures to follow....

What a box! Iconic speaker grills, very old skool looking inside (almost a Steam Punk wannabe!), interesting colour scheme oozing with personality. My kinda midi box.

Wow man, this box sure looks nice  , it´s mfg date makes it feel sooooo old but i love the design of it and it´s easily serviceable. Most of Soviet radios were divided in 3 sections when taken apart.

That is correct! The sound quality is amazing even at low volume. That makes it so unique!

I have been thinking very hard about getting myself one of these. After your review I think I'm gonna take the plunge.I've seen several vids of this model on YouTube and it always sounds good.Plus I just like the look of the speaker grills and the fact that its not a tone box.You do have to press record to use the line in feature but that's no big woopt.

The date on the cassette motor says 10 of 1976.A 40 year old Panny still rocking, you gotta respect that.
You will be pleasantly surprised by the sound quality and will get addicted to this box.
Well built box! No distortion at all on high volume and at low volume it sounds crisp and clear.

It got a fully retractable antenna that you can pull all the way up and rotate. Super nice box!
I have almost over 140 boxes in my collection and this box always steal my heart!

That box looks really old. Is it an early 70's radio?
Joe, It was born in 1976. That is what I believe. I saw it for real in 1978 at my cousins home. That had 4 bands FM, AM, SW1 and SW2.

Wow and still so nice, that's great. The speaker magnets almost date the blaster.
