ya I know what you mean ive fixed my clairtone 7980 my jvc rc-m90 ect on this web site and it was so great with all the help ect but this boombox is driving me nuts ive been collecting and repairing boombox for 20 years lots of fun doing it ...but I'm thinking its the servo mechanism that controls the various tape transport functions

The Clairtone 7979 is a beautiful boombox. I can only think of maybe three members who have one - I guess the 7979 rarely made it to the U.S. back in the 80s.

Do you remember the belt sizes that you used? I think it would be great to pass that info along to the next 7979 owner who shows up looking for it.

NICE job!! Fatdog says maybe 3 members own one of these, amazing - hope he was including me, I'm one of the lucky dogs...) Welcome to the club! Your 7979 looks absolutely fantastic, and yes that trim is a very nice touch. You even have the original decal on the tape door, wow! My belts are working dandy at the moment, but if I rebelt it in future I'll be sure to include the info here. Or anyone else try PMing me. I just saw your comments and questions on my own 7979 repair topic, sorry for the delay. Sent you a PM, let me know if you want any more help. I'm in Ontario too, guess these are more plentiful in Canada. Cheers and Happy Easter! Bellarmine
