Recently, my father gave me a box of family pictures and in it were pictures of me with my first radio cassette player!

A mono box made by BicSound (????)

It was 1980 and I was 12 years old.

I have my "RUSH - Moving Pictures" cassette in one hand and a "Smokey and the Bandit" remote control car in the other :w00t: . Sporting my white VANS with B/W Checkerboard bottoms. It's hard to see, there is also a pack of 60 minute cassette tapes that I still have in a box somewhere that I used to record off the radio with.

My sister had a Sanyo mono that I ended up with, but this was the true first cassette radio portable I ever owned and in just a few short years, I moved up to the Lasonic TRC-920 and ruled my neighborhood

Awesome pics!!!! The Bic , not sure if it was the same company, musta been, , they also produced rare and hard to find high end cassette decks with 3 heads , 2 motors ,and VU meters that just mesmerize ,which I have had the pleasure of owning .. :-)

I agree! Thanks for sharing the pics, Chris.  The only boombox I had back then was the Sanyo M9935, and I didn't get it for Christmas so I don't have cool pics like that. :-/

Awesome pics Chris and Scott!

I had a VW1500 and a Sharp GF9696F in 1982. The car I bought was a used one and the Sharp was brand new. I never had a camera then. It was too much trouble then to develop films and all. Now I regret. I should have taken pics of it. My Sharp got lost in a move which I kept always covered with plastic after use. I washed my hands before I touched it. I was always worried about any chemicals attacking the finish. I still know how it smelled when you open the cassette door. New smell of electronics.  The LED meters were completey new then, i loved to watch them dance with the music. Above all 40W power from a boombox was totally new to me then.

Thanks guys for all the comments and mostly, for not making fun of my bowl haircut

Great Pic Skippy...Awesome you still got that radio, amazing

I have to be honest, when I got this BicSound radio I was a bit disappointed. What I wanted was a stereo box like my buddies dad's GE 3-5286A or any stereo box for that matter. (Thank you Reli for the one I got from you!)

But I knew my folks just didn't have the money. :-/ I understood that, but what really ate me up was my sister (2 years older) got a Sanyo M2441 which was still a mono box, but bigger, with a larger speaker. What pissed me off was, she really didn't even want a radio, but my parents bought her one because I got one and I totally begged for it and we always kind of got the same thing for Christmas.

She ended up giving it to me along with her cassettes....I rocked that box till I got the 920

Merry Christmas everyone!

Nice bowl haircut Chris   I had showed Jeannie your pic at 12 and what you look like now and she said " Oh My God". She could hardly believe that was you and neither could I  I'm just messing with you I think we all pretty much had bowl haircuts.
