I have a GF 555 which I snagged on eBay, which is worse for wear.

It's got broken case bits, missing trim, saggy dials, etc..

But, apart from a slow tape deck 1, it's all working great..

It's not possible for me to restore it fully, so the question is, are there any cheap and easy mods, paint jobs, or other things I can do to the box to give it a new lease of street life..

I was thinking Graffiti box with an Mp3 (sd) casette in the rubbish tape deck ( all the line inputs are fine).

Waddya think

Dude put some detailed pictures please. So we can see the full story. Is it so bad :hmmm: . There are many ways for custom but many for restoring too  . Even the broken plastic is possible to fix. This box have insane thick body. Let us see it. Disassembling, gluing, sanding and some paint can make it a beauty. Should be really cheap way. And you can connect the player directly to the tape head leads for starter.

Your wish is my command.

The tuning knob was off the unit, and I had to pull it through with pilers to attach the outer plastic surround before putting the fine tuner back on. Inside the case it looks as if the tuning arm has come away from the case (although the dial and the display all work, and you can tune in on all wavelengths).

It looks like all you really need are the missing aluminum plates and a new tuner window. The rest can be repaired with some plastic "bondo" and paint.

Dibs on the alu plate
At the moment it's not a beauty but with a little love it might shine again.
Otherwise, graffiti would probably do pretty well on these speaker grills.

:agree: . Its worthy to put some job and small amount of money in such beautiful box. Its not so bad at all. We love beaters too  . My Sanyo MX920 is just a little bit better. But i love it. It works and sounds perfect. But i agree whit Zippy here too. Some graffiti will be mega cool too  . This one have a perfect speaker grills for that  .

Well the 1st tape deck is a bit weak, but I think some time and effort to fix that and I'm good.

The missing panels I had a plan to make my own repro ones, this is one I made earlier with Office.

but as the box looks scruffy I wondered about making a set of custom ones, after all its the same process I suppose.
