Hi Guys and Gals

A little advice please

I am after a CD player, portable, to play CD's through my boxes - Sharp's GF 777 - 909 etc plus Lasonic's

Will connect through line in's - or any other ideas ?

Got a budget of approx £150 - $200 so hopefully will get a decent unit

All advice appreciated

To match the era :) if you happen to find the first ever portable CD player:
Sony D-50
Otherwise, any porta CD will do, IMO.

BTW, AFAIK some boxes of late 80s had dedicated external CD units. Just a couple of
models, IIRC.

With the gf 777 you better mount the unit well because although the speakers might not be the best it can still move the woofers enough to shake things up lol.

Start collecting and you will have many to choose from. :)

Seriously though, you can find very nice models for cheap. There are lots of models with metal covers that are nice and have a backlit display with ESP/antiskip. Use some nice Velcro to keep it on. I have about 30-50 different models and I got many on eBay for cheap and they are nice models.

i agree...get a later model....the early models had no esp....phillips ones have been highly rated....also no failing caps in the newer ones

The Sony D-345 is a good sounding model with ESP that can be had cheap.

The D-465/475 is backlit and sounds great, also has a metal top.

The D-E805 is ESP and backlit with a metal top and sounds great.

The D-EJ815 is backlit with ESP and sounds pretty good.

All these models have a separate line out. Some models actually apply bass boost through the line out, can’t remember if these do. This helps with bass on some 80s boomboxes and sounds really good if lightly applied.

I used to find them for cheap at the local thrift stores, only several dollars each. I buy all that I see and stock up. The cheaper ones don't last long, but if they break, I toss and get another one out of my stash. Sadly I don't see them much anymore.
