Am I the last one that is just finding out about this? Pretty cool. Does anyone here own one??

From an entrepreneurial and creative standpoint – Its an genius concept and product. It's not exactly my cup tea from a “listening†aspect but I do strongly admire it nonetheless.CaseofBass said:They will never replace home Hifi, but imagine the back panel acts as a passive radiator and develops a nice bass frequency. Glad you guys found it none the less. I love input and can answer any questions people might have about the nuts and bolts. This is a fun spin too.

It's pure love for the vintage box in all it's glory. Long live the Ghetto Blaster

Mine was built by someone else, (no disrespect to case of bass) There's members here on Boomboxery who make these custom suitcases and lots of others all throughout the internet from what I've seen. I had liked the VW style so the builder made me a semi custom version with a few added LED lights and a "keyed ignition" on/off switch. I hook up my Bluetooth dongle to it and it sounds nice and clean. Not boomy, but clean. It has 4" Rockford Fosgates with a 3/4" tweeter. Its a conversation starter, and cool for the beach. I like custom stuff and all things different, so I grabbed one for my collection.View attachment 16490static2000g said:Am I the last one that is just finding out about this? Pretty cool. Mine actually came from Rockbox Audio, not sure if he's still up and running. Mines not a MookBox but very similar. I've seen his work though, very niceCaseofBass said:Looks like a MookBox. Sweet score sir. I love his work. The more people with custom music the better. Good on ya.
IMHO, the reason your box/case works at producing good sound is two fold. Firstly, to create the VW headlight look, he selected small speakers. Secondly, the case he used is high quality and strong. So small speakers with limited bass in a solid case would produce a nice sound with the case itself assisting the production of solid, tight bass.SLO said:Mine actually came from Rockbox Audio, not sure if he's still up and running. Thanks James, I bought it primarily for the look of it. I like to hit local car shows from time to time. Its a cool sounding little guy though, gear heads and VW enthusiast's love it. Does it produce HiFi, earth shattering sound? NOPE. Does it sound good and turn alotta heads? YUUUP!jimmyjimmy19702010 said:IMHO, the reason your box/case works at producing good sound is two fold. But many makers choose 50-70 year old cases made of cardboard and/or super thin plywood and stuff 10 inch drivers in them!! Now that's a recipe for a crappy rattling, hollow type of sound. Most aren't ported/tuned so they must rely on a sealed cabinet. Big speakers move a lot of air remember and you can't make an old suitcase you want to open airtight! There's not enough mass in the case to absorb and control the vibrations caused by huge drivers.
I wouldn't normally care but these makers boast of unreal, HiFi sound!
I'm a fan of your VW Combi box though !
