Capstan interchangeability

Hi folks. Does anyone know if the capstan and bearing are interchangeable between any of the Sharp 9X9X models.

I have a poorly 9494 and I can get a scrap 9191 if the parts are interchangeable.

Thanks for any advice.

While you are waiting for a specific response to your question, I thought this might be an interesting idea for anyone who may need replacement capstan bushings/bearings.

I have often wondered if you could take a worn boomboxes flywheel/capstan shaft and housing to a local clock repair facility and use their vast array of brass/bronze bushings they use to restore worn clock movements to restore proper operation. They should be able to remove and press replacement bushing(s) that fit the capstan shaft if you take the mech/capstan shaft and flywheel in with you for fitment.

I believe they are interchangeable. The brass alloy self-lubricating bush bearing should be of the same size for these Sharp models to friction fit in the housing.

Try to slip out that bearing by gently pushing it out inward, with a small wooden rod. It comes out to the fly wheel side. I didn't want any metal objects to pry it out or use nose pliers to pull it out. The wooden rod in the pic is the one I used to push it out by gently tapping on the other end.

For the three of my GF 9696, it came out easily pushing with a small wooden rod from the front side.

Then see how it fits.1745680687223.png

Thanks so much - very useful. The 9191 I had my eye on sold to someone else, but I will persevere.

My issue is that on my 9494, even after having the belts, pinch roller and little take-up rubber sleeve replaced, the cassette sounds awful, with wow and muffled sound. The only thing I can think of is the bearing.
