2.5 Watts per channel....is a weakling
In all fairness, that's only the minimum from 200 to 8000 Hz, according to the service manual. So there's gonna be a peak point somewhere within that range. But probably only 3-4 watts, lol.

CRS-6800. Says so right on the front. Reli, what's the thd at the rated output? Sound quality to me is more important than ten zillion dirty watts.

I have heard similar models and they sound very good. These models have true 2-way speakers with cone tweeters. The specs you quote isn't the frequency response of the boombox. They are qualifiers on the power rating and refers only to the range where the output level is measured at.

He means that if it really only produces 200 to 8000, then it wouldn't sound good. But it most definitely produces sound beyond that range. 200 to 8000 is just the range they chose to report on when they measured its watts.

It's a decent sounding box, but it can't go loud at all. It's small, and kind of a chick box. They go for $50-100 all the time. In fact I have a couple I'll give away at Vegas. They're not worth my time to ship for the low dollar amount I'd get for them, since neither one of them works 100%.

I have the 6820, very high quality unit and decent sounding. Its not loud like a C100 for sure but its only 1/4th the size so no reasonable person would expect that. Constructed with plenty of metal parts and not all plastic junk.

I think most boxes made by hifi makers do tend to have better sounding amps. As an example, my Yamaha PC-8 sounds so fantastic, it's obvious where the priorities lay for the Yamaha engineers. Even running Hitachi TRK-9150 drivers, the sound is just so smooth and relaxing to listen to. The Hitachi drivers never sounded remotely this good when driven by the Hitachi amp!

I'd love to check out one of these Marantz models one day! The 6800 and 6820s are such beautiful looking beasts! :-)
