Living in the UK i want to buy something from the United States, how much can i spend before i have to pay import duties back into the UK? Im after something for $50 and the postage is near $20..........

anyone have any ideas of what i would have to pay?

Total customs value: £45.46
Import duty: £0.00
Import VAT: £9.09
Total import duty & VAT due: £9.09
Total landed cost: £54.56 at USD/GBP exchange rate of 0.6495

I recently bought a lasonic from the US and it was nowhere near the hassle i thought it might be. Having said that it can be expensive.

Remember the import vat is charged on the total you spend, boombox + shipping, and also the royal mail will charge you an £8 handling charge.

For a total spend of £157 (box + ship) it cost me an addtional £38.
