I'm working on this for a member here and when I opened the case, I found this spring stuck to the left driver. I've looked over the deck pretty good and all I can find is a "spring anchor" (plastic > look at where the arrow is). I placed it there for a visual reference, I can't seem to find anything that it attaches to that would be obvious.

I'll roll through the deck to make sure it all works, and I can't see anything that isn't working or not springing back.

Any ideas where this could go? I don't plan to tear open any one of my boxes unless I absolutely have no other option.

Thoughts?

Hey Kitt, did you check around the upper deck? I haven't opened mine up yet to become acquainted with it, but I would think the upper would have springs to eject the cassette. Maybe?

I thought of that too.......but that "type" of deck seems to use very heavy springs......all the knobs and buttons seem to reflex back, so I'm at a loss as to where this thing goes. It may be nothing, but i don't think anyone has been in the box before, so I'm pretty sure it goes to one of the two decks........hard to say.......:(

Whoa Kitt you have some real boombox sleuthing to do, I've never been in my C-100F so I'm no help. Seems if the spring is okay that something else must have broken for it to come loose, hope you can figure it out. :hmmm:

Well I have two of my own and went through them, but never a rogue spring before. Both belts and upper deck belts are almost in that "melting" stage. So I'll have to see what doesn't work when I get it all back together.

I have a chassis out and looking it over both the top and bottom have alot of springs that look like that. Wife has digital camera, so have to wait for her to get home to get photos.

The back plate is secured with 3 solid screw points, I can't see any point to where it could/would mount too........ :hmmm:

Have not forgot about you kitt, my wife just got back with camera tonight, she had it at work. I will get shots of all springs that are visible with chassis still together.

Johnny,

This is the pic of interest. Looking at this, you see the two springs horizontally back to back, then the plate is in the way. I 'think' the problem is behind the plate, can you see under it? If so, there should be a long spring going vertical to the left of these two........and if I'm right, I THINK to the left of the vertical spring, there should be another horizontal spring, can you verify this maybe capture a pic???

I think that is where it may go, but I'd like confirmation. It looks like a cantilever since there seems to be a dimple anchor and an open hole which "appears" to be the correct length and size of the spring, but the spring openings seem a bit shallow but definitely viable, this is why I need verification if possible.

LMK and thanks again

Sorry, there is no way of getting pics under this. I would have to take it apart and then it would be no good to no one (trust me I suck at repairs other than cosmetic).......
