If you own a C100 odds are that the Tape 2 decks pinch rollers have never been cleaned. Mainly because they are difficult to access and many do not know this trick on how to get the deck into play mode without a tape. It is very difficult to focus on the pinch roller with the camera through the tape opening, so this video is assuming you know what it looks like and how to clean it using a q-tip and alcohol while it is spinning.

This way of cleaning the deck takes less than 5 minutes and will get Tape 2 singing like new again (provided dirty pinch rollers are the cause).

No longer will you need to spend an entire day cleaning the pinch rollers on Deck 2. This is how you do this.

Very nice, although I want to point out a couple ideas. When you have mechanism running while using a qtip you have to cautious because cotton can get caught on spindle and can be very difficult to get off. Lol. I usually clean everything when I’m restoring as it makes it much easier but my biggest change was not to use rubbing alcohol as the problem with it is because the rubber is so old in these decks that the alcohol actually dries and cracks the pinch rollers and tires making them even worse.

That's very true. I use Tascam Rubber cleaner for mine but it has to be used sparingly. As you mentioned, it's usually not a good idea to get after them too much. They're old ;-)
