Hello, FOR THE LIFE OF ME I cannot remember the brand and model of a boombox I saw years ago in a Stereo Review magazine ad. Looks very similar to Lloyds v444. I saw one one Ebay a couple of years ago and just can't remember. I've been looking at vintage boombox images online and searching "boombox" on eBay for hours. Just CAN'T find it. HELP PLEASE!! I'm on a mission to find it.

It's similar to a hitachi 3d but there are many aka of the box.
I do remember seeing an ad for a similar boombox that had a pic of the box with some lightning bolts behind it talking about the massive amount of power it had.

Yep, That's the ad. I remember the lightning bolts. The ad stated it had thunderous bass or something like that. The 3D is similar. That could be the one. I remember the box in the ad had some red trim and EQ on the top. Pretty cool. Thanks for the reply!!

I also used to own a Mitsubishi Starion a good buddy of mine at work gave it to me because he bought a Honda Prelude and he had nowhere to take the car he had so he gave it to me I gave it to my brother and he ended up blowing the motor up cuz the turbo went out or something but anyway that was a nice ass car. I should have kept that car but my mom sweet talked me into giving you to my brother so I said f*** it that was the end of it. My brother needed a car and that was the only spare car I had. By the way it was my younger brother and he didn't know a damn thing about turbo cars but what the f*** can you do.

I had a Uher Power Port 110 which I gave as a present to a friend of mine. It's a relatively easy find in Europe. I kept for myself what looks like an upgraded version of the same boombox. This too has has many akas, one of them branded Helix, if memory assists me: the Inno-Hit RR 6080 -- see the specs on Radiomuseum:

Yes, those are quite common, here's another version of it:

At some point Hitachi started producing endless variations on the theme of the frontal 4-speakers units like the one that is being discussed. They perform well in terms of output but (at least to my eyes) their look is less interesting than the classical one. It's just my taste of course, but the only one unit with such design that really fires my imagination is the lovely Aiwa CS 500. Which also technically speaking is a world apart.

There really are a lot of variations out there. Seems like the deeper cube like shape of the case would allow a little more air space for the speakers, improving the bass response over the more traditional classic flatter designs of other boomboxes. I'm pretty sure the Lloyds / JC Penny was the one in the ad but seems like it was under some other (maybe off brand) name. I found one that looks really clean on Etsy for $120 and bought it. Waiting for it to arrive. I'm sure the sound won't be "thunderous" as described in the ad but the box still has a cool, unique look. It's sort of similar looking at the front to some of the more modern bluetooth speakers until you notice the top with EQ and dual cassettes!!
