It would be really cool to read reviews of classic boomboxes from the days when they were new. I wonder if there are such scans available of old audio magazines? I'd love to read what they had to say about something like a Sharp VZ2000 back in the day...

Have you seen www.worldradiohistory.com ? It's an archive of nearly all the significant stereo and electronics magazines of the past, and will have something if anything does.
Try looking through 1980s stereo review and audio magazines and see if anything comes up. Popular Electronics often featured boomboxes too in its new products sections.
Thanks! I had not seen that before. Seems quite interesting! After a quick search I found some mentions of the VZ-2000 and other boomboxes.
