On May 31st, 2014 I will be joining others in the annual 24 hour Relay For Life event near where I live. Its a fundraising event supporting the American Cancer Society. It will be taking place in Ojai, California at Nordhoff High School on their football field and running track. I will be joining the team, Milestones and Memories.

Like last year, I will be walking the relay with various Boomboxes cranking tunes and showing support. The event is 24 hours and each team must have a person on the track walking at all times for the full 24 hours.

For more information of why I am walking please click here:
http://main.acsevents.org/goto/chriscronkrite

If there are any local boombox brothers or sisters that would like to bring a radio and walk with me and show their support feel free to PM me for more details. You're welcome to come out for the whole event or just for an hour. During the day there are bands and DJ's and at night they erect a movie screen and play movies. There are some food and drink vendors but it would be a good idea to bring something to eat and drink if you plan on staying a while. I'm not going to lie to you, it's most likely going to be HOT!

I will be bringing my camper to sleep in whenever I can as well as have a staging area to swap out radio's.

People dress up and have fun with the event. Different teams have different themes. Last year I realized that I could drive up attention to my team by carrying a BIG ASS radio and it worked! I got high fives, stopped for photographs and put smiles on many faces. I figured I would ramp it up a notch this year by bringing many more radios from the biggest in my collection to some tiny mini's for when I need a bit of a break! Of course I will be utilizing the famous Blu_Fuz boombox straps as they are invaluable for events like this. I will also be wearing a pedometer to track how many miles I walk and see if I can smash my personal "Walking with a Boombox" record!

I will also be proudly representing Boomboxery with my new Boomboxery T-Shirt

I know things are tight for many people but since this is a fundraiser, you are welcome to donate to the cause of the American Cancer Society by clicking on my personal page HERE. All the money collected by my page counts towards my team Milestones and Memories. You can donate as little as one dollar and everything helps.

More than just a fundraiser I have learned through attending that this is a positive support group for people who have lost loved ones or are going through dealing with cancer now. Hearing peoples personal stories and seeing it first hand was enough to make me want to get involved. What I am doing with the radios simply ties in something I love and I have seen it put smiles on people faces first hand as we all know boomboxes do. This event is a community and boomboxes support communities through the sharing of music and NOTHING does that better than a BIG ASS RADIO!

The plan will be to post pictures to this thread throughout the 24 hour relay via my cell phone so you can see the BLASTERS IN ACTION!

Thanks for taking the time to read this thread :-D

I also want to thank Fatdog for allowing me to post here on the forum!

Here are the radio's I have decided to bring with me....it's a real fleet!

This list is subject to change, but what won't be changing will be me taking the M70. Even though it is a heavy beast over the long haul, the wow factor outweighs itself!

The BomBeat S-84 has a built in strap from Blu_Fuz and is reasonable weighted. It still looks great, has good LED's which will be great at night and it can still get loud especially since I replaced the pizzo's with some 931 tweeters!

The GF-8989 is going because I just did a full restoration on it and it's working great and it looks great! Plus, I got to have a proper "Silver" there!

I'm taking the Panny FM 45 to get a break from the big blasters! I will be doing the whole relay with a radio, but after learning the hard way last year and paying for it with a sore shoulder, I will gladly crank this mini! PLUS, it actually rocks really good and loud!

I am taking the tiny GE - TV mini w/micro cassette for comedy relief as well as shoulder relief. I think it will get some looks!

And last but not least I'm taking the trusty TRC-935! This is also a night time event and the 935 is all Shock N Awe!

Lights galore, Volume to spare and I have a custom strap for that as well. At night they have a DJ playing, a movie on a screen, people making noise and I plan on pushing it to the pugs with the Lasonic!

8989 would be perfect. Scr-8!?!?
Was totally thinking the SCR 8, but it hasn't gotten much use and the volume is scratchy and the antenna needs to be tightened. Not sure I will have time before I go. Great night time LEDs!

Less than one week to go and it's going to be 24 Hours of Battery Bustin' & Boombox Blarin'!

I am revising my Boombox line up for the event. The Crown 950 is most certainly in...not sure if I will omit a box or just bring another! :-D

I scored some Duracells this weekend at Lowes. 8 for $11.00 with a $5.00 rebate! I'm stocked up with 20 Duracells, 10 Energizers and 10 Energizer Rechargeables.

I'll be Rocking The Relay without any power issues!

In just a few days I'll be setting the record on the greatest distance walked with a boombox. Or at least try.

I will be using a Digital Pedometer like the one below to record it.

I am amassing all my gear and radio's and getting ready to do this thing!

 TOMORROW IS THE BIG DAY!

First and foremost....I want to thank you all for the amazing support!

BECAUSE OF YOU...
I raised $440 for the American Cancer Society!

BECAUSE OF YOU...
I am the number one fundraiser on my team!

BECAUSE OF YOU...
Our team is 11th overall in money collected!

BECAUSE OF YOU...
1/3rd of all money collected by my team came from Boomboxery!  :hooray:

Seriously guys....You are absolutely amazing!

But this is far from over....I am doing this because I have seen the faces of people that have lost loved ones due to cancer. I am doing this for my Uncle Bob Phillipson who lost his fight with cancer when I was in my 20's. He was a big influence on me when I was growing up and he, along with both my grandfathers and my dad showed me that a man is someone that does the right thing regardless of the outcome and works hard for his family.

I understand that money doesn't grow on tree's. Every dollar that you guys donated shows once again what a great community Boomboxery is. As always I am very proud to be a part of it. THANK YOU.

I will be representing all of you LOUD AND PROUD tomorrow! Below is a picture of all the Blasters I'm bringing. The goal is to motivate. I feel that by walking with a radio it shows others that we are here for many reasons, but one of them is to STAND OUT and MAKE A STATEMENT.

Many people paint their faces, men walk in ballet toto's, some wear crazy wigs, others walk it backwards and some run the whole event :jawdrop:
After seeing this, the only thing I could think of was BOOMBOX!

Last year I spent about 5 hours there. The reaction was....Well, you guys know very well what the reaction people have to seeing classic boomboxes.
THEY GO NUTZ!

I knew right there and then I had to step up my game and go for the full 24 hours and raise money in the process. Something you guys helped me do BIG TIME!

A piece of me is dreading this. I have been doing some mileage around town preparing. Trying to get my stamina up. I have bought proper walking shoes, lost 10 pounds and been eating right. But the thing I am most worried about is my back. At nearly 46 years old, the old spine ain't what it used to be   But I will survive to blast another day!

Check this page throughout the day as I will be posting pictures of me blasting all day AND night into Sunday morning. Feel free to comment as I will probably need the motivation!

Thanks Again guys

One last reminder, donations can be made FOR THIS EVENT as late as August 2014 ! ! !

Hey Chris, forget the bad back, bunions, hernia etc , I thought a complete lack of beer would be the main stumbling block to you completing the full 24 hr event :-)

James.... :-)
