QUESTION:

Has any of you ever tried to get your Boombox collection covered by either your home owners insurance or renters insurance?

If you have, could you please explain your experience.

As my collection grows and I realize that these are fairly easy to steal and there is allot of money wrapped up in an easy to steal package.

So you basically showed your sales receipt to your insurance agent?

What if you don't have any sales receipts? :dunce:

I think as long as you make a list for your insurance and take pics or video they will payout, but dont forget you must pay your deductable first ;-)

They won't need proof.........You just tell them "I want insurance for X amount of dollars worth of household goods"

Thats what i've done. But they asked me what items are of particular value (tv, record collection, boomboxes etc) and what I estimate their value to be. No proof required..................

:agree: That is how it usually works. Also you can claim for any household items in the trunk of your car. When my parents van was stolen they had Christmas presents in it and car insurance paid van and home owners paid for presents

Yeah I had my car broke into maybe 10 years ago and only items that were essentially mounted/attached to the car were covers by car insurance, the rest would be home insurance. So the video camera, my wallet, cd's, etc that ere taken from it weren't covered.

I thought about noting to my insurance of my collection, probably a good idea. Make sure I'm covered for whatever the worth of my houses contents, which is probably twice as much since getting all the boxes :)

When I get a new one I take a pic and email it to my insurance agent...I usually include an ebay auction link with that same boombox for a value assessment. Covering my boomboxes didn't even change my rate on my homeowners insurance so I would definitely recommend doing it that way.

i have insurance for all my camera and stereo s and star wars you just ask for collectors insurance and then give them a leg
the arm comes next year
but i had to photo every thing
i keep a copy at 5 locations of the contents cd all photos and info
funny enought the record collection is valued at the most for such a small collection
and only because its a complete INXS 7" and 12" lp that it goes up in value take one record away and it halves in value
but all up i pay $800 a year extra for all my goodies
and they wait 3months a least to pay out on collections as it can take this long for stuff to start to curculate on the market as stollen iitems
my record collection has been ink marked
so get it the eazy way or pay like i have the hard way

Thanks guys, this is really good information. I thought I might get into some kind of "Well Sir, you didn't have proper sales slips and those radios are really old so we estimate their value at $5.00 each!"

I think I will look into adding my collection. If someone breaks in, or the house goes up in flames, I would be really bummed, but even more so if I lost all that money I have invested.

Now if the insurance would only cover the LOVE I would loose!
