Hey all, I wanted to share our story from a few weeks ago with everyone, sit back and enjoy :-) A few weeks ago our friend and fellow collector Miles text me and David aka Dr DER about a screening of the classic movie "Krush Groove" that was going to be happening Oct 29th at Stan Lee's Comic Con at the Los Angeles convention center, and asked if we would like to attend and participate with some of our boomboxes for display while the guest panel spoke about the movie. Of course we we're pumped, and happily said YES!

The movie is more of a Hip Hop musical, with hip hop pioneers such as RUN DMC, Kurtis Blow, The Fat Boys, LL COOL J, as well as others like Shiela E, and New Edition to name a few. So we packed up the families and boomboxes in our vehicles, met out in L.A. for this great opportunity to hang out with Darryl McDaniels aka DMC, and Kurtis Blow! Thank goodness I took a handtruck for my boomboxes, poor Dave was all about the muscle carrying 2 boxes while his son, and his sons friend carried 2 boxes each.

Then, it was showtime! We literally had to be set up in like 10 minutes, but somehow, we did it. While I was adjusting the settings on my chrome LASONiC, someone from behind me asked, "Do all these work?" As I turned around to answer, it just happened to be DMC from RUN DMC! I shook his hand and gave him the homeboy side hug as if I have known him for decades LOL, then told him that yes, they are all functional, most with fresh D batteries. He was totally cool, and was blown away by our display. Kurtis Blows sons were mind blown when they saw our boxes.

Thanks to Miles transmitter, We all tuned our boxes to the same FM station, which allowed the audio from the movie on the big screen be transmitted out of our boomboxes out to the audience, which was realllly sweet. The voices of Kurtis Blow, DMC, and the rest of the guest panel were also transmitted through our boomboxes as they talked. It was Really really cool to see the led's and the dustcaps on the OSAKA flicker when DMC would get excited and loud. Afterwards it was time to break it all down. A few folks came up from the audience and asked some questions about our radios, and took pictures of em as well. They LOVED em.

We decided to head over to DMC's comic booth which was really close to Miles and Mark Davis booth. We had tons of stuff signed by Kurtis Blow and DMC, including our boomboxes, our old cassettes, records, DMC's comics etc... Everyone in the place LOVED the radios. Kurtis Blow and DMC we're so humble and cool to be around. We had an absolute blast! Dave exchanged contact info with Kurtis Blows son and DMC's manager in hopes of eventually locking in an interview for Boombox Magazine, so stay tuned...I want to thank Miles for giving us the chance to be a part of all this. It was such an honor to meet these hip hop legends that I have been listening to since I was a kid! Heres some captured moments from it all.

Great story SLO! Love the pics, especially the last group photo.

I've yet to see Krush Groove, but have been wanting to for some time.

Off-topic, how would you compare it to Beat Street?

Back on topic. As I've said before, it's awesome the attention you guys are getting and doors/possibilities you are opening. Keep it up!!!

Thanks trippy, Beat Street is a good hip hop/breakdancing/graffiti classic too, Krush Groove has a lot more music performances from the time period. Kurtis Blow was saying that even though they we're no strangers to performing in front of a crowd, that none of them had ANY prior acting experience until Krush Groove. They just went in there and rolled with it Lol. It was so cool to hear their stories from back in the day.

DUDE! This is so insane!

Because of BOOMBOXES you guys are meeting the Pioneers of a music genre!

To have a GF-777z signed by DMC just breaks my brain.

Top work guys!

Thanks Chris. Yea I agree 100% bro, a few years back when I bought my very 1st boombox, NEVER did I expect to meet so many great people/collectors from all over the world, and meet them in Vegas. And I for dam sure did not expect to meet so many music artists and hip hop legends that I grew up listening to on a daily basis. UNREAL. And all for the love of the boombox! This has become more than a "hobby" but more of a LIFESTYLE

And stories you can tell Little Slo about when he's older. He looks old enough to possibly remember this, especially since you have pictures.

Awesome! I can't say I'm familiar with all the names you mentioned but, Boy, what an awesome experience to be involved in, supporting and contributing to. I can only imagine how this must have have felt, you now can enjoy another topic of conversation on a beer & BBQ day!

Much more of this BB exposure and y'all could look forward to a BB cartoon series on TV, much like a BB version or what the Harlem Globetrotters did with basketball. :-D

Thank you M.O.M. ;-) I know that we grew up listening to totally differents genres of music Lol, but I love ALL music. A quick Google search of the names I mentioned may paint a clearer picture for ya ;-) (only if you want of course)

Myself and countless others grew up listening, and breakdancing to the music from these hip hop legends. As kids, we would record their music videos from MTV on my dads VCR and watch them over and over and over. I never get "star struck" when I meet someone famous, but on this day, I have to admit, I was.

Thanks big James, our boomboxes did add that old school flavor indeed, which is what it was all about. I am just as amazed as you are at how a Boombox, has brought us together with so many legends, music artists, and just all around good people who love the same thing.

And who would have thought that a magazine, selling worldwide, would have evolved from all of this to document it all! Im just happy to be in the front row to see it all happen and grow ;-)

We have family in New York and Florida and i am trying to persuade the wife to move there. Then Trump happened. :bang:
