Gang, first of all, the Sunshine Mix pics look awesome -- sounded like a great time! Maybe, just maybe next year...

My question is about the possible/forthcoming book. Any additional information on this? Is it more of a history style book or coffee table/display book?

From what Lyle told me, it should be available by this Fall/Autumn. I think a few members got to see the "advance" idea book. Maybe they'll chime in about it.

i didnt get to see the 'advance' layout --
but the guess is that it will be both a history and a table-top photo book

Okay, let me know as the situation develops. I am a writer -- okay, aren't we all :-/ -- but seriously, I do write and would be happy to lend a hand if needed.

Freddie and I saw the advance design of the book, it features different sections covering the history of boom boxes, interviews with some celebrities that own them and pictures of course, one part had technical drawings, Freddie saw more than I did.

One thing is for sure.. the images are going to be amazing! They were using a 65 megapixel Phase One camera. The sensor in that thing is a big as a medium format film frame.

Stunning resolution!

Can't wait!

the setup Lyle was using made the boxes look fake and that was just looking at them sitting there, not talking about looking at a picture, all due I guess to the lighting and use of shadows

Holy crap, would be worth the trip just to have some of your boxes photographed on equipment like that.

i think lyles book will be really cool. i mean when you are really passionate about something it usually does result in something special.
i love his photographic style so in some sense i think even if this book was written in a language i didnt understand the pictures would be worth it alone.

From what I saw we will all be pleased with his work. Part of the discussion I had with him was that the focus on the book would be more on the culture, thus most of the pics will be of what the "typical" boombox is. I did discuss with him however that there are some out component sets out there (like the Maganvox Phase III from Beat Street and Sanyo C-5 from L.L. Cool J's Radio video) that should get some props as not only were these a part of the culture but really drove it into the mainstream since this is what suburban America typically bought.

Unfortunately, my Phase III was at home.

What I really like also is that he was looking for the "dirty" ones. You know, they get used for the intended purpose.

There will be a lot of history in the books and we should all be pleased witrh the end result. As soon as it's available I will order my advance copy.

Lyle is doing an outstanding job and I enjoyed speaking with him about his work. I hope to meet him again very soon.

discovered on Lyle's site last night that the cover picture on Time Magazine issue covering the 9-11 tragedy was taken by our own Lyle!
