Heyya all, :-D

Still searching & refining the woofers for the GF & am trying out some new SHARP 6.5" woofers. Here's some pics to give you an idea:

Looking at the moving 'diaphram' of the woofer, from the side, you can see the 'cone' or whatever is actually styrofoam body of some sort attached to a voice-coil & spider suspension, just like a traditional woofer. The front emitter side of the driver is a semi-reflective silver color. with a foam surrond. They're rated @ 30w.

Can anyone tell me where these SHARP speakers came from? Were they part of a bookshelf system or a boombox of some sort? They look pretty rare & maybe a flat rigid woofer might work well here & the new 50w woofers will work even better in the outer L/R positions. I'll post some new pics of the GF-777Z after I swap out the woofers, again!

Stay tuned... :afro:

They were apparently a Japanese market item according to the very limited results from Google. I wonder why Sharp used a solid styrofoam woofer?

The idea is to have a solid diphram that doesn't distort physically but as light as a paper cone. That's my guess. The theory is less distortion in bass notes = cleaner sound. The problem is they're 8 ohms & slightly less efficient than the new 50w black paper cone drivers I got last week. After listening to them working as 'Super-Woofers' the black speakers way outperform the flat woofers. They are cool looking tho. I knew this would be the expensive part of the upgarde, guessing what woofers work well. I've gotten really good results so far & the present version actually sounds even better & plenty of punchy bass without the flat woofers. I'm almost ready for the Conions & the JVC's... :breakdance: I just need a more efficient outer woofer now to blend better with the tweeters & 'Super'(s).

EDIT: After returning to the original configuration before the flat woofers were tested, I realized how balanced the sound was conpared to the new woofers. I'd have to grade the new woofers as a fail. They were expensive too. If I could get the 30w per ch. they need, maybe I have a fighting chance but the GF is too weak per amp to drive them, like the subs I used before. ALSO:

The FLAT surface of the woofer is alot less efficient than a cone design but has alot less distortion too.

These would work pretty good in a HK-9000 or a GX-33H. Each woofer in there is rated at a max wattage of 32 watts each.

That's probably a really good fit then. I'm getting some carbon fibre matte to finish them & make them look sweet. Hopefully, it works out. Maybe, I'll bump the amp up to drive them. We'll have to see. I'll post some pics of the new look, once I re-finish them.

I'll take them if you don't want them. Keep me on your DIBS list for them.
