I always like to know what the best way to clean the shiny dust caps.

We don't want to make the cone paper wet in the process of cleaning. These dust caps are like the cornea of our eyes, so sensitive. As you all know some dust caps are strong and some are very weak. It can be easily damaged with a very slight force in the wrong direction.

I pull the cotton swab tip, extend it a little more, and used a few drops of pledge cleaner. Then take a small cotton ball and gently glide over the surface barely touching it to shine it. It gave me good results with no haze and beautiful shine.

Recently at the end of the cleaning process, I tried Meguiar's Natural Shine Protectant Wipes, it gave the best results. I gently touched the moist wipes in the center and moved it to the edges without wetting the cone paper. Later, I used microfiber cloth to shine it. I make the soft extended part with microfiber cloth to gently shine it. It worked so well! This method gave excellent clarity with no haze.

Meguiar's Natural Shine Protectant Wipes is good for navigation screens, LCD, and clear plastic.

Your suggestions are most welcome!

Wow. Royce You've gone way out on this. I've successfully used Q-Tips moistened with Windex and very gently started a swirling motion from the center of the cap outward. Then, repeat it with a dry clean one (or two). Then, finish up with a VERY soft terry cloth for the final pass. It's basic but has worked for Me. "Put some Windex on it" ......Windex can fix ANYTHING :-D

:-D Hi Adam, Windex also works but it gives a dry look. The alcohol solvents will clean it up to give the dry lifeless looks.

The New Windex contains the following ingredients: Isopropanol, 2-Butoxyethanol (butyl cellosolve or knows as ethylene glycol monobutyl ether), Ethylene glycol n-hexyl ether (hexyl cellosolve), water, fragrance and blue dye.

Windex make me laugh remembering the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"

I usually just use spit on a Q-tip

Q-tips are good because you can use them to clean the "rim" of the dustcap. The rim catches light, so you want it to be clean.
