This comes up often. There's a lot you could read through. Do the following and you'll see a dozen threads about this topic.

1. Click the gear icon next to the search box, that will bring up the advanced search
2. Type this into the search box: best sounding
3. Below that are a couple pulldown menus. Change the right one to "Only search in titles"
4. Click "Search Now" at the bottom of the page

Hey Reli... it's too bad you aren't local with me anymore. You should audition my Pioneer CK's... Very few of those exists anymore with properly working woofers.

Thanks everyone. It looks like a Telefunken Studio 1 or 1M is what I should grab. Purportedly great sound and an abundant supply on eBay. 30 pounds is heavy but not too heavy I think.

Anything to watch out for with these? I'll mainly be using the cassette deck.

Is there a good place to send these for reconditioning?

BTW is there a great sounding boombox with CD and cassette or was that too late in their lifecycle?

I think some of those Panasonic Cobras could be high on the CD boombox list.

EDIT: And of course the Platinum Series 3-piecers.

Radio raheem

Requiem Æternam
Sony fh 909
jvc rd md5
sony f40

jvc pc5

jvc pc55
panasonic rx c100

sharp gx 300

it's a close call between the studio 1 and the sony fh909 but the 909 is twice the power but does not take batteries

best one piece jvc m90....followed by the conion c100 but i prefer the conion as it looks flashy and is louder than the m90

best egg panasonic rx dt 707 909....

the panasonic platinum series are great rx ct990 dt680 690

Panasonic RX-DT680. Big power, big bass and modern construction (easy to work on).
They sound pretty good on 10 Ds too. They were cheap to buy but are getting more expensive each week.

The Toshiba WX-1 is my all time favourite for sound & features. Not the loudest but the only 3 piece with a dedicated loudness control instead of a button & passive radiators for good bass response.....just like the old Yamaha Natural Sound receivers & also has dual record cassette decks. Both decks record.

A much overlooked grail..
