I am looking to get a Boom-box from the Golden Age 1980-85

I know the JVC-M90 PC-55 PC-550C and JVC-RCM70 are excellent, but also QUITE EXPENSIVE!

I would like to get a BB with excellent sound quality a cool classic look durability in a reasonable price range under $150.00

Also they should be relativity easy to service as some are a "bear" to work on!

So what brand is best? JVC,Sanyo,Toshiba,Panasonic,Realistic or other?

What models?

I would say there are many mid sizers that everyone can say would fit the bill  but one that sticks out is the Realistic scr8  it has real nice styling and sound and is definetly under $100 to own...plus very simple to work on ;-) :-D

There are quite a few classics that you can get for $150. However, does that amount also include shipping? Shipping charges could cost you another $40 to $50 depending on weight of the boombox and quality packing.

A few that immediately came to mind are:

Panasonic RX-5150
Rising SRC-2015
G.E. 3-5259 "Blockbuster"
Realistic SCR-8 (AKA #14-778)

:agree: with FD. All four of these have very good sound...the Blockbuster would be my fave of the four with its solid bass, clean highs and classic looks... :-D

How does the Realistic SRC-10 compare to the SRC-8?!?!
I own both the scr8 and the scr10 and believe me the scr8 is much better in the looks department and sound quality  I think that Radio Shack went downhill after the scr8  If you decide to get the scr10 then I would try not to pay more than $40

:-D I have both the SCR-8 And the G.E. BlockBuster and did a sound comparism and looks comparism and I like them both.
The SCR-8 has a cleaner sound and is more elegant.
The BlockBuster has more bass and it looks more Ghetto like meaner. Kind of like the G.E. is the bad guy and the SCR-8 is the good guy.
I love the chrome knobs from the SCR-8 and love the Chrome dust caps on the speakers from the G.E. To me it would be a hard choice to wish one I would
choose cause I love them both. :-D
