can anyone tell me how to clean the sticky melted gunk of the melted belt from the pulley and whatever else that mess got on?

Contact spray (Carbon Tetrachloride based) was what I used on the two most recent jobs where I had boxes needing the capstans and idlers cleaned off prior to fitting new tyres and sleeves, it would work equally well on places belts have been. Don't use one of the ones that has a built-in lubricant though but, or you'll find it leaves the flywheel and pulley surfaces like an ice rink and the new rubber won't grip properly. Just don't ask how I know that last bit!

Windex works well too!

Main ingredient in windex is Buty Cellosolve (EB solvent- Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether).

Wear gloves, moist a cloth with windex and wipe it off on the cloth, using newer sides of the cloth as you work.
