Beat Cut Switch?

This was a feature found on some 1980s units.

My Grundig RR-325 had one, & according to the manual it was to do with suppressing whistling whistling on but MW but I never seemed to need to use it.

Does have any explanation for it in simple tech terms?

Quick and dirty answer...

It is used when listening to the AM, or MW, band of the radio and simultaneously recording with the tape deck. The tape deck's bias oscillator frequency can interfere with the AM reception. The switch shifts, or "cuts", the deck frequency to help eliminate the interference.
